May I have some constructive feedback? by gdrocksin photoshop

[–]isjhe 12 points13 points ago

It's way too orange. Everything is orange, but not everything in this kind of situation is going to burn. The sky, for instance. There would be a lot of heavy smoke, concrete won't burn and wouldn't reflect that much orange. I see the effect you're going for, but it's too heavy handed I think.

I just watched Drive because it received reviews and I was curious to see what all the hype was about. I hated it. What "awesome" movies have you seen and hated? by smdnowin movies

Rubber. What a piece of shit. It was like watching someone jump up and down screaming "I'M QUIRKY AND COOL GUYS LOVE ME".

One day you'll be sitting there with your hedgehog pal watching some TV, and he'll be doing his hedgehog thing, and you'll be all "oh he's so cute and prickly" and then you'll look down and after a moment you'll realize that hedgehogs have proportionately huge peckers and he's down there gobbling it like it's the last frozen popsicle on earth. And loving it.

At least, that's what mine does.

You need some more content to fill in the sidebar, maybe a logo. It looks pretty good for a straightforward, simple site.

It's a high quality video, try converting it to a lower resolution with a tool like handbrake.

Battlefield 3, Modern Warfare 3? Not that I wouldn't have been stoked to get those at my age, but they're not really age appropriate (and I just came from playing some BF3). I'd love to help your son out with some gaming, but I don't think I'd get my 11 year old brother BF3 let alone someone else's kid.

If your son snuck those in there, just keep this on the D-L and see what other, T rated games he would like :)

How do I resize background images in CSS? I tried to do it the same way as i did it in HTML but it didn't work. by [deleted]in webdesign

[–]isjhe 1 point2 points ago

Short answer: you can't. Long answer, background-size isn't finalized, but you could try some of this.

Yeah, the BF3 offline mode is kinda lame, I wish they'd drop House Of The Dead mode and just let me play bots. But once you get off of training wheels and fire up the real game it's pretty sweet.

I'm hoping my gtx260 will be fine (it's been one hell of a champ for everything else) but I am prepared to upgrade. I'd actually be happy to upgrade, finally, a game that makes me upgrade after over 2 years.

WTF has happened to this industry.

Bottom line with web design, anything in print is already out of date and cheaper on the internet. Practice is the only way to get better.

When did Google get recipe filtering? That's quite a bit more cool than spell checking. It's been doing that for forever.

Line duplication, line and line block shifting, column editing, block tab indent. Once you've edited CSS using those shortcuts it's hard to go back, or even use the mouse.

If I recall correctly, Coda also lacks decent code folding for PHP, which sucks.

The best I've found has been Textmate, but even that is just ... different. PHPStorm has an amazing editor, but it's too bulky for general text editing.

Coda lacks a lot of basic keyboard shortcuts that I really rely upon, sadly. Espresso does as well.

I've been using Interarchy for my FTP needs for about a year now. It's pretty decent, the only thing I would change is making the upload timer for its NetDisk function instantaneous rather than every 30 seconds. For text editing, whatever text editor I happen to be using this week. I haven't found a solid replacement for Notepad++ yet.

How to make this loading style by letslearnmathin webdesign

[–]isjhe 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You could do something a bit more recyclable, like this:

$(document).ready(function() {
    $(".loader").click(function() {
        var storyname = $(this).attr("name").val();
        $("#main").load("stories/_"+storyname+".html #main");
    });
});

Add the story name as the "name" attribute on your links, or whatever you are using to trigger the ajax load, and the class name, and volia. There are other, better ways to do this, but this is a good example of not needing to re-write your JS for similar functions.

Are there single classes that would work for someone who might just be interested in learning about architecture, but not necessarily completing a degree? I'm not sure if I'll go for another degree, but I do know that I want to take a class a semester to help keep myself active. Any recommendations on what to look for?
