Hand from live $1/$2 last night by gosiouxin poker

[–]ishkabibbel2000 3 points4 points ago

CC0 and I may not agree on SC, but I fully agree here. You're actually the one making the terrible play. You aren't calling with that hand on the flop because any card you catch that would improve your hand (sans another 4) will likely make someone elses better.

And I know you're not chasing that flush after the flop, are you?

You should have folded on that flop. Even with it being only $16, there is SOOO much danger in this sort of hand. Anyone else at the table could be sitting on a possible set, 6-7, 2-3, (if they're the idiots you claim) A-10.. (which is what seems the most likely)

You're beaten after that flop. Time to get out of dodge or raise big and hope to take it down right away. But honestly, after the pot got that big by the time it came back around to you, I doubt you had enough to push enough people out.

Dude... Awesome advice. Went with Hex w. healing rune, mass confusion with shorter cool down, acid rain w larger area effect, gargantuan w. cleave, splinter darts and grasp with greater slow... Holy hell. Hardly anything touches me. And what does manage to get through is just healed off with the Hex healing...

Thanks again! I'm LOVING this build!

Oh, I agree. You and I are making the same point. I just found it to be laughable that the guy I was responding to compared SC with 9-4o

Now that you mention it, no, I'm not sure. I very well MAY be Jesus! =P

Honestly man, I just found this subreddit a couple of days ago and have been reading it pretty regularly since. I don't know who is in the US and who isn't until they say otherwise, and I've never seen anyone posting where they're from on every post. It seems Carbon and Bodog are the most popular, but I also see a lot of references to PS too. (And I know it's blocked in the U.S.)

I didn't figure it would hurt to just ask. I'm sorry if I've offended you.

My wd is SOOOO squishy. Dogs need a shorter cooldown. I find myself sacrificing them WAAAAY too much because they're just getting the beat down anyhow.

So don't play them. I do just fine with them. (READ: They're profitable for me)

And for the record, you should go back and check your math. It's MUCH more than 2% worse.

9-4o has very limited possibilities that make it playable after the flop in ANY situation. 9-9 , 4-4, or 9-4 are about the only options. Suits really don't matter. You aren't drawing to a 4 on the board flush with 9 high.

Avoiding the amazing 10-Js, let's look at something worse. 7-8s. After the flop you have any combination of the following that is playable after the flop. 8-8, 7-7, 5-6, 6-9, 9-10, and ANY 2 card combination in your suit which is 55 other possibilities. This doesn't even take into account combinations that include only a single 7 or 8. (I'm not playing this hand for 1 pair) I'll take 60 possible 2-card combinations to make my hand still potentially playable AFTER the flop above ONLY 3 2-card combinations... ANY DAY.

We can sit here and do situational math all day long. The philosophy is the same. You play the hand UNTIL IT NO LONGER MAKES SENSE.

The "until it no longer makes sense" is subjective based on your own style of play. For me, there is a checklist of things to consider.

-What IMMEDIATE odds am I getting on my money?

-What IMPLIED odds am I getting on my money?

-How big are the stacks of the people still in the hand?

-Have they been playing loose or tight?

-What are the odds for my hand to hit after the flop?

-What are the pot odds after the flop?

-How likely can I pull off a bluff if I miss?

There are many things that go through my mind if I'm playing a hand like this which is why I said it's difficult to play properly. The bottom line is this: More people than not consider it to be playable exactly as I described before. But even with that, your play style determines what you will/won't and should/shouldn't play. Not some magical list of hands...

I'm sensing a bit of sarcasm... Either you're playing really bad hands by even limping with 9-4o (can't say I've NEVER done it) or I don't get what you're being so sarcastic about... Playing suited connectors on the cheap to win a big pot is a very common tactic, ESPECIALLY with pros.

You do know that 9-9 is largely considered one of the top 10 hands in NLHE, right?

nuts vs. second nuts situations by rychildin poker

[–]ishkabibbel2000 0 points1 point ago

Yeah, nothing you can really do in that scenario except lose your money.

The exception to the rule is if you make the low end of a straight with 4 to the straight on the board. While similar, it is less true if you make a flush with 4 of the suit on the board if you're relatively sure your opponent was holding an A from the beginning.
