What project would you recommend for a novice woodworker to create? by Sinisa26in woodworking

An end-grain cutting board is a pretty good beginner project.

Woven-bacon BLT on fresh homemade bread. by inferno714in eatsandwiches

Yup. Simplest bread recipe ever. Water, yeast, a little sugar, salt, and shortening - and, of course, flour.

Strangely enough, the parts that require assembly are relatively unambiguous.

Put the rice and water in, pop the top halfway on, and set the heat to medium. Let it boil 'til you see "craters." Turn off the heat, put the top all the way on, and wait ten minutes.

That's it.

I used to work at a big-box home improvement store, and one day, I'm waiting outside my store with a (not-unattractive) customer who just bought a lawnmower and her two kids, one of whom is an amazingly precocious little girl.

Single Mom: What if I get it home and can't get it started?

Me: Um...

SM: Like, I put the gas and oil in it, and still can't get it to go?

Me: ...

SM: I've got, seriously, 5 mowers at home and they all don't work. I can't believe I have to buy another one.

LG: It's true.

Me: And you can't figure out what's wrong with them?

SM: An engineer looked at them and couldn't figure out what was wrong. I mean, I've been mowing lawns since I was her age (refers to little girl, who smiles proudly), and now...

Me: stupid comment about "electro-magnetic field" around her house... "I don't know."

SM: So what if I can't get it started?

Me: I guess you could call us.

SM: Yes! Can I have your phone number?

Me: Absolutely! (I get out my pen and a piece of paper, and jot some things down) Okay, this is the number for the store, and you'll want to talk to the Outdoor Power Equipment desk, so when you get the automated menu, that's the one to choose.

SM: ...

Me: (waving as they leave) I hope it works for you!

...sometimes I'm a complete idiot.

One of the few really satisfying moments as a delivery guy is avoiding traffic because you know how the lights and local byways work better than anyone else at that time of day.

I did this while skiing. The front tips of my skis caught in something while at high speed (I'm not a very good skier), so I wound up doing a full flip with legs expended, while my skis fired off to who-knows where. I came to a sudden stop standing straight up on top of a mogul, boots planted firmly in the snow. I didn't believe it. Neither did the few others skiers who saw me. I took a bow (to light applause), and went to find my skis.

Since I figured out how to stop cutting myself all the time, it's been totally worth switching.

It was a hell of a drive - I came from Rochester, too. You're damn right they had better wings in the Roc than in Buffalo. You're also right about the buffalo lime cilantro wings.

I recently relocated from upstate New York (near Buffalo itself), and, for my money, whoever recommended Fire on the Mountain to you has it right. They've got some unorthodox flavor combinations, but most of them are still quite tasty.
