Nor did I say every submission needs to be national geographic quality, but c'mon, there are a lot of bad submissions all of which I do hide (I don't even dowvote them). Still I think I'm allowed to rant this once.

Beyond the easy filter, it is still a well-shot photo that looks cool instead of a gun and someone's cat surrounded by 10 sqr feet of someone's floor.

[–]in_vitro 4 points5 points ago

perhaps I should have said "craigslist quality"

[–]in_vitro 4 points5 points ago

I don't mind what type of gun it is as long as the picture is taken well or in an interesting way. Even the coolest gun looks like shit on a linoleum floor or floral pattern sofa with the flash washing it out and everything else blurry, framed so that the gun only takes up like 20% of the center of the photo. Sorry but I also don't care that you just bought your first glock or put some blurry holes through a piece of paper.

The fact that you said "saddle" makes me want to drink my coffee this morning, grounds and all.

These are the kinds of photos we need in this subreddit instead of the terrible and boring phone shots of "my boring collection".

I think you touch on the real issue which is whether or not the "haves" must sacrifice for the "have nots". The cultural attitude that I spoke of applies to this as the American idea of freedom is that we should not require or tell people that they need to provide for anyone but themselves so long as they are not actively preventing others from providing for themselves. There are plenty of people without food or clean water but it is put on every citizen that they must provide those amenities for those who cannot provide them for themselves? It is a matter of rights vs negative rights. An extreme case of this comes in the example of seeing someone drowning. While it is seemingly more moral to make an attempt to save the drowning person, should someone decide not to, are they to be punished for choosing non-involvement? Is someone legally compelled to provide services for someone without compensation? Is someone compelled with the threat of jail to provide the means of obtaining services for something like healthcare? You speak of many people without healthcare but it is more often the case that those people chose not to have healthcare due to any number of reasons, not that it isn't available. One such reason, one that I think needs to be reformed, is the current cost of healthcare in our country. There are many debated reasons for this as well which I can't pretend to have a good overall solution for but I think that, like with all problems, we are better to address the causes and not just treat the symptoms.

The answer comes from the cultural identity of America as seen as an individualist society. Some people think that people against public healthcare have a "got mine, fuck you" mentality which I'm sure some people have but at least for me it comes down to control. The more that a federal government has control of, the less likely it is for an individual to have a choice in the matter. For example, what if the only cellular carrier was a government mandated one and they decided the prices and that everyone was automatically opted in. Then let's say that the service was unsatisfactory to some people but there's no alternative. People don't like having choice (even if imaginary) taken away from them. I know cellular service and healthcare aren't the best comparisons but I am personally leery at the idea that our government could construct something satisfactory or even on par to what other governments have, even when shown other government's as a template. I recognize the benefits of other models and the importance of healthcare and I will admit that our healthcare needs a reform. However, I am happy with my current healthcare and I'm not sure my altruism is enough to convince me that forfeiting choice to government control will yield something more beneficial to me. Reform like that can't happen overnight and I don't have enough confidence in our current government to establish something on par to what other countries have even if it wanted to. I think all the ruckus over SOPA illustrates some of the fears of government intervention. It's easy for other people to hail the triumphs of their own healthcare but that's only because it's already established for them and it's what they are familiar with. I will also say that a lot of the horror stories about our healthcare can be rather sensationalist and many of the merits of our healthcare go unnoticed.

I have the XD40sc and it's only 1 1/16" wide. Not really what I'd call a fatty. I can't imagine that the XD9sc is wider at all.

so I just measured my XD .40 subcompact and it is only 1 1/16" wide and has a 9+1 capacity. Overall length 5 7/8" and height of 4 1/2". Is the appeal of the XDS that it's a SC in .45ACP and closer to the XDM? I feel like I'd rather have 9+1 in .40S&W than 5+1 in .45ACP.

Oh the backpack. I was talking about that gear/range bag that they are always hustling. Still pretty good stuff for as far as I've used it. I take it to work and have strapped it to my motorcycle quite a few times.

I don't think they are acting entitled. I think think they are trying to be pragmatic about it. Given the immediate situation, the only bad thing about living at home is the stigma that's associated with it that the article touches on and that you are attributing to. Certainly at some point they will need to advance or perhaps move but I don't see it as a negative thing for the time being. You are just perpetuating the negative notions that the article is describing. Obviously he has a job, one that pays decent and yet you want to make them out as entitled when they are simply pursuing a fairly easy way of staying solvent.

Which is actually sort of interesting because the types of "higher" jobs associated with large urban areas tend to be ones that aren't as geographically restrictive as technology has developed. While you can't do a factory job outside of the factory, you certainly can teleconference from home or anywhere, send emails and all that other business type stuff. I've seen wanted ads for things like blog editors but a requirement is that they are in the immediate metro area which never really made sense to me outside of occasionally having meetings. But again, that seems like it could be fixed with technology. Then again, I've never been much attuned to the corporate/business world.

are you talking about the one that is constantly "on sale" for $19.99? I got that one too and use it all the time but they are always doing promotions like free shipping and stuff so I would just wait until there is another sale.

I'm only speculating because I don't have all the details but I would assume that an equivalent job in another area would make less than he is in NY. I'm only basing that on the trend of jobs paying better in areas where the cost of living is increased over other areas. You are also throwing in another factor of actually being able to find a job somewhere else and relocating.

how much did it cost to ship it back to them? Maybe you can look on the bright side and think of the shipping cost as the $40-50 you were willing to pay to have it cleaned up a bit although I know the hassle and time can be so frustrating that it doesn't even equivocate to dollars.

I guess for a suppressed 10/22 then it's a "why not?" but you aren't going to hear the bolt noise over the unsuppressed round going off while having ear protection on and even if you did, who cares?

his original comment said something like "so much for moving to america, if 'normal' people carry this, what do the mentally challenged people have?" which I replied "downvotes" and he replied "typical american, closing their ears to anything wrong about them that they need to change". He was just flexing that anti-american/gun trolling.

I said nothing originally concerning carrying a gun or glassbreaker, simply that you don't have to worry about cars catching on fire under water.

I don't think you have to worry about glass or things catching on fire under water. The bullet path is still concerning but even that is diminished under water.

People in the bar not impressed by Robber with Gun. (A pub in the City of Rotterdam, Netherlands) When they realize the barman is kicking him out, they al go after him. Very funny by Kamarungain guns

Here is the real translation:

Newscaster: "It was a quiet afternoon at the local Cafe when the merriment was interrupted by a jackass waving a pistol."

Hugh Jackman's Cousin: "He came in with a pistol saying something about how At the Drive-In was reuniting and that he needed tickets to Coachella"

Newscaster:" The cafe lies in a blue-collar neighborhood and caters to a more down to earth crowd who would more than likely prefer classic rock"

Hugh Jackman's Cousin:" At first we were all like 'well that's great news but tickets for the first weekend have been sold out for some time' plus I personally find it kind of funny that a sort of anti-establishment post-hardcore band would reunite for one of the more commercially successful and huge festivals around"

Newscaster:"Regardless, even among the seemingly uninterested patrons, the Williamsburg reject insisted that he wasn't leaving without tickets"

HJC:"It was a bit funny at first but then got kind of annoying. I wanted to tell him 'listen I don't believe that a skinny-jean-wearing pussy like you would even know how to use a pistol let alone use it on someone so you aren't fooling anyone.'"

Rico Suave:" I noticed the guy saying something about tickets and I offered to help the guy saying that my brother knows a guy who knows a guy in a band who might be able to help but I don't think he heard me"

Newscaster:" Finally, the bartender grew annoyed and told the intruder that while the lineup for Coachella was good, Daft Punk wasn't playing and instead that got Justice, a bargain brand version. At that point, the gun-wielder stated that Daft Punk sucked and was only popular because of that one Kanye West song. This seemed to strike a nerve with everyone in the bar who apparently were big fans of French-touch electronic music.

Rico:"When he said Daft Punk sucks it was pretty apparent that he was going to get his ass kicked in the street"

Newscaster:"As the mob chased the intruder outside, he was able to get away on his fixed-gear bicycle down this pathway."

HJC:"He jumped on his little fixie and took off but he almost got hit by a couple cars because the jackass didn't have any brakes on the bike"

Newscaster:" The moral of the story is, if you ever decided to barge into a cafe and make demands with a pointed pistol, you'll find nothing more intimidating than half-drunk Dutch EDM fans"

I think "submerged car" pretty much negates any of those safety concerns.
