What would you like to see from black ops 2? by DrRootstabbain codbo

[–]ikean 0 points1 point ago

It was no exaggeration when people called it "Lag Ops". MW3 is absolutely the less modern game (simply a Sledgehammer re-skin riding the successes of MW2 thanks to Activision idiotically dismembering Infinity Ward), however it is also a wildly less rage inducing game thanks to a far, far more sane and functional network management. Aside from that, the Famas was a pile of crap that was single-handledly the worst part of BlackOps in terms of play and balance, and nearly mind-numbing that it made it in such an otherwise beautiful and perfectly varied game.

W13 Suggestion: Learn to write neatly by WhaleStepin ProjectEnrichment

[–]ikean 6 points7 points ago

Without any suggested resources, this answer makes it seem like the title should be, more accurately: "Pay more attention to writing neatly" or "Put more effort into writing neatly" rather than "Learn to"... which I think is where the real interest in this suggestion lies.

New to Drupal - jumping in the deep end. Question on how to achieve something. by Huwamiin drupal

[–]ikean 1 point2 points ago*

ah it may be a shame if 7 doesn't play well with it because nothing else looked like it stacked up even remotely unless 7 has some alternate module as robust dedicated to this up its sleeve (which I highly doubt). if not I might just go to D6 for this task if I were you, I'm not sure what you'd be losing in doing so? although Drupal dev shops are anxious and ready to move to 7, in the idea of using the shiny new thing, there's a lot of solid, reliable, well tested codebase for 6 still in comparison.

don't use the node import module, use the poorly named Feeds module, you'll be glad you did. I have a site which is creating/updating/and unpublishing hundreds of Product nodes from CSV dumps and looked into nigh every possible CSV import method and module.

I have this issue I keep running into with NERDTree.. by ikeanin vim

[–]ikean[S] 1 point2 points ago

Just wanted to let you know I set it up in my vimrc as "cmap bc Bclose". Now I just :bc and am able to keep the same buffer command semantics as :bd, :bn, :bp, etc. I'm enjoying this setup so far.

I have this issue I keep running into with NERDTree.. by ikeanin vim

[–]ikean[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for linking this. I gave it a shot and verified that it does implement a ":bd" behavior that works without conflicting with NERDTree. I'm not sure I like using a leader to work with all the other ":b<something>" buffer commands but I do prefer this behavior to the standard ":bd". If I want to close the buffer including the window I have no qualm with performing each step individually (:bd Ctrl+wc).

Looks nice, I'm a bit confused by it though, so I'm going to ask some potentially naive questions. Are those 3 vsplits on one huge monitor? If so, how are they managed (initialization when you start vim, etc)? Also what are the arrows at the bottom (>>), some kind of linux terminal multiplexer, vim plugin?

Do you ever run into this issue with NERDTree I just now posted in /r/vim? http://www.reddit.com/r/vim/comments/m4cjp/i_have_this_issue_i_keep_running_into_with/

Interesting. It does appear that this person is having issue with the exact irritating behavior/conflict that I'm discussing here. I was having to imagine, with all the people who use NERDTree, I wasn't the only person who found this intolerable. I'll give that script a try tomorrow and report back.

edit Yep ended up using the bclose module, works great, closes buffers without destroying windows.

Today I'm watching college football, including the local game tonight, via the ESPN app on my xbox. It really is outstanding.. has a line-up of other college games to choose from in the mini-guide, and has a screen sitting on my TV right now that is just a live update of all the games scoreboards.

using the "this" keyword, help! by tmarsh18in javascript

[–]ikean 0 points1 point ago

Ironically I was just reading this really good article about the elusive 'this' binding in javascript by A List Apart

http://www.alistapart.com/articles/getoutbindingsituations

I get the feeling they make it a little more complicated than they should though, because pulling a function out of an object and expecting it to maintain 'this' as a reference to the object is behavior I'd likely not expect.

Is it that you don't like BlackOps (I mean, MLG players only use the Famas for the most part, but I love the balance in contrast to what MW2 was) or the direction of the COD series (compared to classics like COD4), or something else?

Well I doubt he plays public much (likely doesn't contribute good tournament practice AKA how to earn money), and in tourneys you don't have killstreaks or many (of the stupid) perks to play with/deal with like ghost.

How many of the Christians of reddit think that what is displayed on reddit as Christian is not really how you think? by draegenbaegin AskReddit

[–]ikean 0 points1 point ago

Well, I think I can relate to what you're saying. The last time I took mushrooms (it was years ago now), I distinctly recall being very taken by the notion that I've payed so little attention to the things around me, that I completely ignore them, and I was immensely (and almost as if for the first time) appreciating looking at things like the trees in the fall. With that said, day to day I do think incessantly. I do this very knowingly, however. I'd go so far as to say I consider this a welcome trait of mine. I have a very good capacity to prepare for things, to handle responses of conversations based upon preempted dialog days or hours before, to formulate extremely interesting and very random thoughts unrelated to what I'm doing, though I'm well aware of the trees and walls and buildings and stone beneath my feet that I'm, mostly, ignoring. I live in the blur I realized I live in. I've decided there to be less benefit, and perhaps relevance, in appreciating the trees.

Frequenting central Europe fairly often myself, I can offer an educated guess that it's because these Europeans are much more familiar with the eastern US as it becomes at least a remotely viable place to travel. Florida is the "tropical" destination to visit in contrast to New York. This is in some sense the German equivalent of a Hawaiian experience, and many of them may actually be familiar with pineapple on pizza from first hand experience in Florida.
