38 Studios lays off entire staff. Big Huge Games staff gone as well. by Tumblerin Games

[–]iWriteYourMusic -1 points0 points ago

I totally think it should be a part of the conversation. I just wish it wasn't the top comment, as the politics of this situation shouldn't be what /r/games is focusing on IMHO.

No I agree with you there. It's the snide political agenda angle of his comment that I don't like. It reminds me of the kinds of angry comments that show up in r/atheism. I also don't see why we should be feeling schadenfreude from this scenario. This collapse is going to have resonating effects on the gaming industry that will negatively affect our hobby.

So there is a tactical RTS in the vein of Company of Heroes/Men of War/Supreme Commander that should be more popular... $20 by fldashin Games

To some, like myself, it's a feature. I can't handle how frantic base building games are.

Also true, but CD Projekt was working on GOG and other projects while doing The Witcher. The governor of RI said it would have needed to make 3 million sales to break even. Break. Even. Think about that! I really believe there's something very wrong with this picture.

While this is true and I heartily agree, this is /r/games, not r/politics. I really don't think this should be the top comment here.

I get that, but new IP's never sell this well. The game was a success. In 90 days it sold 1.2m. The Witcher took a year to sell 1 million and that was a huge success. Something is amiss.

I still can't wrap my head around this part. For any other game, selling 1.2 million copies (at $60 that's $72m) would be a huge success, maybe save GTAIV or MW3 which both cost around $100m to make. There must have been some serious mismanagement for it to be a loss even considering these sales.

The worst part is that when you get to the end of Ep. 3, you really see how completely unrelated the series is to Xenogears. I waited so long to see the relationship to Xenogears that they promised, but it never materialized.

His religious quackery didn't bother me (it's the MLB, they're all religious) as much his ostentatious "bloody sock" spectacle during the World Series. That said, I was still rooting for 38 Studios. I was hoping that, were his company successful, it would inspire other high profile investments into the gaming industry. Oh well to that.

Who do you think has the best fans in baseball? by FreckenZeDeutschin baseball

[–]iWriteYourMusic 0 points1 point ago

I hear ya, but even I gotta say Cubs fans are the damned best. My dad couldn't stop raving about the Cubs fans who came to Scottsdale, AZ for spring training to see the Cubs. Besides being fun and friendly, in his words, "Diamondback fans were idiots by comparison." There's something to be said about fans that really really know the game.

Now that I think about it, they do make me angry. They've wasted Ichiro for over 10 years now.

As a Yankees fan (and all around Mariners indifferencer) this makes me laugh.

Again, it's a lineup problem. I respect Girardi, but his lineup is a mess. It should go Gardner, Jeter, Granderson, Cano, Swisher. That order. Payroll be damned.

Today as well, despite the win. Both Jeter and Cano are hitting. They're just too early in the lineup to get RBI's. There's no stat for being "clutch," but my grief remains that despite the RISP issues of the Yanks, A-Rod is never clutch. If nothing else, his post-season BA should tell the story.

Glad someone agrees. I thought it was inspired when MLB '12 The Show put A-Rod as batting 5th in the order. Finally, something made sense. Personally, I'd bat him 6th, but that's me.

[–]iWriteYourMusic 8 points9 points ago

No, he's not. No one wants to hear it and every time I say it, I get a barrage of downvotes from my fellow Yankee fans. He is terrible with RISP in high pressure situations. Every time he comes up with runners in scoring position and the Yankees tied or losing, I cringe.

What CorporateImperialism said is basically my sentiment. He was at best a good NL pitcher. There's no way he could survive the AL East. I don't know what the Yankees were thinking. He would be a 4th or 5th starter in the AL East.

Had you been following the slow decline of A-Rod/Texeira and the insanity of the Kuroda acquisition, you'd have at least somewhat expected this. Or maybe it's just my own pessimism.

After Robinson blew a save, Soriano will probably be the closer. The Yanks haven't been in a closing situation in over a week so he hasn't had the opportunity. I'll admit, it seems like Girardi would rather have Robinson in the role. He's young and has the stuff to be Rivera's replacement.

Right right. You guys remind me of the musicians I work with that would rather have a blinking metronome than a conductor for their symphony rehearsals.
