Just a little bruise from Roller Derby practice! by Poohannesin WTF

[–]hocuspox 2 points3 points ago

With medical care costing so much these days, who can complain about some free (if cocksure) guidance on dealing with blunt trauma?

So many redditors (used to?) jump at a chance to expand their knowledge and support that with vocabulary. It is in part that diversity of mastery that keeps people coming back, and getting lost in links and tabs as they integrate new concepts into their worldview.

It is also what compels many to cobble together technical terms and link to sites where more information can be found in lieu of their knowledge at hand.

People get pompous and condescending and too, annoyed at obvious attempts at one-upmanship. While many celebrate those certain celebrities who do IMAs, others disdain placing such emphasis on the abilities or accomplishments of an individual.

But displaying a certain smug confidence in one's element of mastery, in my mind, reinforces the accomplishments of the human race, even if it is by way of specialization. No one can realize the dreams of everyone alone.

First look at Bill Murray as Franklin Delano Roosevelt for his new film "Hyde Park on Hudson" by thelovepiratein movies

[–]hocuspox 0 points1 point ago

Having just the other day watched "Where the Buffalo Roam", a movie in which Murray stars as Hunter S. Thompson, complete with the ever-present cigarette holder, I can't reconcile this picture with F.D.R.

Just looks like Murray as Thompson fuckin' around.

Is there a way to play indie games offline on the 360? by hocuspoxin gaming

[–]hocuspox[S] 0 points1 point ago

Thanks for a reply. They reside on the same system onto which they were downloaded. Arcade games work fine offline, but the indie (such as Techno Kitten Adventure, Endless Dungeon, and Cthulhu Saves the World, etc) all say I must be online.

I guess they may have changed policy?

Say, I've got quite a bit of IT experience but been out of one for a about 90 days, and did not receive unemployment. Mostly server hardware and datacenter operations supporting windows/unix environments, but certainly two or three years doing basic unix/linux/windows installs and configuration, including updates and some sh scripting. I don't doubt I could pick up any skills related to administration. I live in Denton... probably not much better unless your company is in the metroplex.

Does that sound at all relevant? I've blown up dice.com with applications...

yosemite sam vs. the Christmas tree. MUST WATCH by Nas-psuin videos

[–]hocuspox 0 points1 point ago

Phew! Xmas crisis averted in Part 2.

I can certainly dig the humor and complete absurdity shown in this edit, but it is still a bit unsettling to watch, rather like Hoarders or Intervention. The tension and communication. The too-familiar culture and the apparent economic circumstance. The Reality of it.

What rampages has this man gone on that left more permanent, invisible damage? How many "tantrums" has that woman heard?

Will he one day wake up with a knife in him by a spiteful woman?

What is happiness ultimately like in this family? How long has he been so ornery?

Call me a sympathetic, hypocritical and self-entitled fool, but this made me re-evaluate what $30 can mean to someone, as well as appreciate what a long life is capable is shaping a person into.

That's fascinating! I've heard about the cyclops being misread mammoth/mastadon skulls. Led me to want to check out the book by the person who suggested it. Now to see if there's a copy located at my local used book store!

It might have been a release of invisible poisonous gas from volcanic activity, similar to what happened at Lake Nyos in Africa, subsequently fossilized by silting over or being covered in a fine ash.

I saw the original post. Nice to have a follow up. I just had this typed out and then read your comment:

For the sake of experiment, did you talk to him when he was outside Sen's Fortress before the gates opened?

Guess that's a clue. Sucks that it breaks something. I just met him in the area after Sen's Fortress and talked to him, killed the "monsters" but came back later and he was gone. Hope that at least is scripted.

Doh! I will resist the edit urge. To be perfectly honest, I don't quite appreciate rearward facing children wherever they might be, so it's mutual. I would just as soon be done with it all. But NOOOOO the new releases must be transported!

In my state new game releases by law have to be put in a rearward facing child in the back. I also keep a "New Release On Board" caution hanger on my back window so emergency personnel know what is at risk in the event of an accident.

I feel sorry for the kid - Racist woman on UK tram by calluxin videos

[–]hocuspox 7 points8 points ago

That's a rather fair assessment. This is similar in concept to the somewhat antiquated term "hillbilly". Once (and still to some) an exclusionary and disparaging term for folk living in the mountains (Appalachian or Ozarks in particular), many now use it to jokingly refer to themselves or in an otherwise endearing manner.

A similar, more offensive term, "dogpatch" was even more taboo due to a stronger reaction by those it labeled and has fallen out of usage.

Personally I find the term "shithead" to be appropriate no matter who is it pissing me off.

There have been several Lonely Hearts Killers in the past, with motives usually relating to stealing money/inheritance.

One guy mentioned he had to "move by Sunday" for the job. I wonder if the ad/contact requested he bring valuables or similar. Certainly tools for ranch-hand odd jobs aren't terribly valuable. Strange motives, indeed.

This lady's story is particularly interesting.

At the risk of simplifying it, consider that you're at an age of general upset, anxiety, and revelation. Don't look too much into it or be quick to associate your behavior with a symptom.
