Look what Gabe Newell sent all the way to Poland. For free. by RaptorSitekin gaming

Okay, I'm going to be THAT guy. Gabe is clearly an amazing guy. But it is not like he carefully selected this picture, framed it, shipped it himself, etc. There are, very likely, other people who take care of this and at most he signs the thing, which takes five seconds. Still VERY AWESOME that he has such respect and such a strong rapport with the community. Whether its someone awesome or not, aggrandizing people is not the healthiest thing in general. (Btw, this is one of those honest posts that will end up getting downvoted because, alas, reddit, like any other group of people, does not like contrary opinions).

As soon as someone mentions posting on one of the most populated sites on the internet, I immediately know they must be the perfect match for me as well.

Dear people of GW - just post pictures and have fun with it. Your attempts at trying to gain pitiful sympathy with titles are killing my boner. by classyandsmoothin gonewild

I'm actually getting more tired of posts like these with no boobies inside them. Sympathy titles are a part of GW and they aren't going away. Also, having uninteresting sympathy titles helps contrast between those and the people with real character.

A few years back my roommate hooked up a nintendo with Super C in it. I played it obsessively for a little while and was able to beat it without a continue.

I beat that crazy frustrating level in Super Meat Boy that people were making posts about a while back.

Oh, not so much difficult but time consuming: level 99 of all my characters in Final Fantasy 6 while listening to snoop dog when I was 12--I'm a lot older now :(

Oh oh oh, I beat Zelda II and Kid Icarus. Those were big deals to me.

Exactly. This isn't a story that I could relate to, as if friends often do stuff like this and it is just one of those annoying things. It sounds like OP has some REALLY shitty friends and should consider expelling them from your life.

I just wanted to add that while the English translation/voice acting is insultingly bad, the voices become pretty sparse throughout the game and it isn't so bad. The game itself is AMAZING!

That's happened to me too. I have a critique. The last panel lost its punch because of the preceding panel--"it all went better than expected"--which is usually used as a concluding panel also. It seems like either A) that second to last panel should have been left out or B) there should have been another panel between the second to last and final panel depicting a moments pause before the final realization.

Why Our Brains are Prone to Procrastination (No, It's Not Just Laziness or Lack Of Willpower) by anutensilin psychology

The conclusions of typical psychological studies always seem to provide insight that has been openly acknowledged for years.

Also, the evidence provided by netflix habits is ridiculously flimsy to create such firm judgements from.

I know that I'll be downvoted but either way, this stuff is very silly. People's time would be much better spent studying something like Heidegger, but similar to the conclusions of the article, something like Heidegger will likely be put off indefinitely while this article will be devoured right now (yes, it's junk food for the mind).

Life and videogames are different. When I run into a wall, it will likely be fairly painful; in a videogame, you are merely colliding with the mesh, meaning you cannot move through that point. Basically, doing ANYTHING in life will do something, but that isn't at all so in a videogame where only specific actions can trigger certain events.

If you hate that style, then you probably wouldn't like it since the art style is probably its most redeeming quality. Well, the concept is pretty fun if you like stories that blend dreams and reality BUT the direction is sadly very bad and amateurish.

It hurts me that you have Tekkonkinkreet as number one when, while it had a fantastic art style, the pacing and direction is honestly fairly poor. It was disjointed in a mediocre B-movie kind of way.

Also, Paprika is a pretty fun film but I would not say that it is superior to Perfect Blue (both being by the same director).

And yikes, Tales from the Earthsea might be Miyazaki's worst film.

Anyway, thank you for sharing. Ghost in the Shell is excellent and I've always loved Akira.

Advice needed on a book concerning Jungian psychology... by ArthurDalekin psychology

[–]ho_ho 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The Undiscovered Self is a small book and not a difficult read. It begins with how we are isolated as humans with no other intelligent species in which to compare ourselves with. If you really want to understand Jung, I would research his main concepts: Collective unconcious, Archetypes, etc., and find his writings which focus on what interests you most. There are also other writers to look at. Joseph Campbell was hugely influenced by him. There are a couple popular Jungian psychologists who have work available. Robert Johnson is one. A popular book that comes to mind is: The Inner World of Trauma. BUT, even though it is more focused on Otto Rank and Freud, if you want to read something that is mind blowingly interesting and not too difficult, check out Earnest Becker's The Denial of Death. Also, Life Against Death by Norman Brown is very good. Both were honestly life changing for me when I was a freshman in college (I know they aren't focused directly on Jung but they are still worth reading. Denial of Death talks a bit about Jung as an apprentice to Freud, and how Jung went against some of Freud's ideas).

Hideo Kojima on American and Japanese markets by Izickin gaming

[–]ho_ho 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yikes, not at all. He mentions the possibility of hiring overseas developers, but the main point of the article was clearly emphasizing that there is a rift in the markets and it may do well for Japan to hold a different ideology, de-emphasizing the importance of succeeding overseas or "worldwide".

That was really depressing, him playing in that quiet, lonely room. I used to go for bike rides and hang out with friends, then I'd built a fort at nights and play video games (Zelda: Link to the Past, Final Fantasy 6, Chrono Trigger, Mario 64, Mega Man, etc.) My childhood was much better.

Wait, to a lot of "gamers"? There are a large amount of people who play videogames now that it is mainstream and "acceptable" but these people are not gamers, no sir, they are just normal people that only do what the majority do, and the majority seem to think that if you play COD, you are a gamer.

What bothers me is when people praise games that technically have "good" graphics but are artistically bland, ex. Crysis.
