TROPHY CASE

  • dust

My friend has a product that is almost done with the engineering phase and he will be starting production within a month. The problem is, he needs about 75k invested to get production going. He needs to raise capital but he doesn't want to give up ownership and has no collateral. by The_Comma_Splicerin Entrepreneur

Kickstarter is definitely worth checking out, if he is not familiar with the concept. Things to consider before he starts a project there:

  • you need kick ass material to market your product: successful products usually have stunning videos with prototypes or renderings etc
  • while it is not unheard of that a project reaches more than 75k in funding on kickstarter, it is probably in the upper range. Most are 10k or less
  • probably not every product is suited for the crowd at kickstarter

I think this could be useful for less technical people. Maybe you can add a search box so one can directly perform a search.

For building your product, you can try a marketplace for manufacturers in China like alibaba.com or GlobalSources.com

Maybe this article about outsourcing hardware production to China can be helpful: http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/10/going-it-alone-how-to-make-your-stuff-in-china/

In case anyone wants to build a similar lamp, that is definitely something to keep in mind. I watched the lamp closely the first couple of hours.

The ikea magnesium lamp that I used as a basis actually comes with 5 spots, but it looked to cramped in this space.

TIL I learned that either a) I have a room mate and I have a split personality or b) this is a repost.

Rest assured that if I had carefully arranged that pic, I would have chosen a more impressive book than Beginning iPhone development.
