I live in a 2 bed, 2 bath apt with my roommate in a newer building. How can my BC Hydro bill be $300! by therzr16in vancouver

[–]hearforthepuns 0 points1 point ago

If you're renting you should get the landlord to get someone out to check the wiring ASAP. If there is a fault that's causing that much power to "disappear," it's a major fire hazard.

I don't think the smart meter will solve your problem unless your current meter is faulty.

How do I clean dust from the inside of my PC, and how do I stop it from forming again? by Troll-Catcherin techsupport

[–]hearforthepuns 3 points4 points ago

Yes but not recommended because all those charged particles moving around tends to be bad for sensitive electronics. Best to use an ESD-safe canned "air" spray, or an ESD-safe vacuum.

That's not to say I haven't done it without any issues...

I'm not looking for clothes when I go to the thrift store. Can't let you have all the goodies. :P

Just like this article doesn't mention anything about how it tastes, except an afterthought that it's a Pilsner-style.

Yes, but when you don't have dedicated cycling lanes throughout the city a bike like that can be kind of unwieldy. Which is why most of us in NA use panniers instead. Well that and because cargo bikes are not widely available or affordable here.

Also, hills.

I ride a cargo bike with a trunk on the front almost 3 feet wide. If I have to work my way through car traffic I'll leave a trail of dents and scraped paint before I get run over.

Which is why cyclists in North America don't commute on their furniture.

r/guitar, my 9 y.o. son wants a guitar for his b-day. Should I get him a "mini", a short-scale or just go full size? Thanks... by photokeithin Guitar

[–]hearforthepuns 0 points1 point ago

If he's like most 9-year-old boys, he will LOVE the electric guitar and amp and play with distortion on all the time.

This is actually a really bad way to learn because he won't be able to hear a lot of the sloppiness in his playing. I'm not sure how you can discourage it though short of giving him an acoustic guitar instead.

Also, make sure he uses ear plugs if he's ever cranking the amp. That one won't be nearly as loud, but I have a bit of hearing damage and tinnitus from cranking my 50W tube amp when I was 16 and didn't listen/know better.

I am pretty sure the OP was being sarcastic. That setup surely sounds terrible hence the "dirtiness."

Shoot, you could even try that amp as the sub if you REALLY want to.

I really doubt a guitar amp would be any good as a sub.

There's no downvote button in /r/dubstep to downvote the jerks. Unless you use the compact site or disable CSS.

There's NO WAY your bill should be that much in an apartment unless you have your heat cranked all the time or you run a bunch of PCs 24/7 or something.

I lived in a 1-br apartment with electric heat, stove, washer/dryer, dishwasher, etc over the winter and my bill was never over about $40/month.

I also had a HTPC and a couple of cable boxes (30W a piece) running most of the time for the TV.

Either you have faulty wiring or a faulty meter. (or a bad meter reader if you don't have a smart meter yet)

But they say with a smart meter you can't steal power?

Bullshit. The smart meter isn't going to stop someone from tapping off your lines somewhere. But it's more likely that the meter is wrong, or that you have faulty wiring somewhere.

This might be a long-shot.. but where can I buy C2O coconut water - Thanks! by anthonym52in vancouver

What makes that specific kind so worth looking for? There must be a dozen other ones that are easily available. Blue Monkey is the best tasting IMO, although it can be pricey.

1500W plus a stove element would probably be enough power. I can boil about 5 gallons with my stovetop alone, and an immersed element would be much more efficient.
