I don't know where it is, and I could be mistaken, but they seem to be the "pay-to-play" type of ladies.

Don't you have homebrew stores in TO?

Are you sure that's not the plastic leaving off-flavours in the water? I could be wrong but I don't think oxidized-water is a thing.

So I made some barleywine this weekend. The beautiful storm inside the kettle turned out to be indicative of the explosive fermentation to come. by wtf81in Homebrewing

Just out of curiosity, what size bucket do you use? I've been doing 23L batches in a 30L bucket and never had anything come out the airlock. My current batch was actually bulging the lid from CO2 pressure but the airlock stayed pristine.

Very interesting. Anyone else with mad hacker skillz want to make a MythBerry frontend distro?

Microwave + toaster oven combo? by hearforthepunsin Cooking

[–]hearforthepuns[S] 0 points1 point ago

That's actually not a "food-safe" way to defrost meat, because you run the risk of pathogens being able to multiply before you can kill them with cooking temperatures. Cold water that's changed every 30 minutes is recommended.

Do thousands of people do it that way and have no problem? Yeah, but there's still a slight risk.

Personally I find it easier just to put frozen meat in the fridge a day or two ahead of time.

Solution: buy more beer with paper labels, recycle the enamel-labelled bottles for the 5-10c deposit... You get more beer, a usable bottle, and some spare change!

Nope. Something that goes into something is a plug. Something that has something go into it is an outlet, aka receptacle aka socket.

I'm not so sure. I would think most of the background RF is coming from high-power always-on transmitters like AM/FM/TV broadcast.

The aforementioned steel wool works there, if you're persistent.

Yes, if you want to be pedantic. I would guess that most of your "harvested" power is of terrestrial origin, though.

Hydroponic vs. soil for my balcony garden? by hearforthepunsin gardening

[–]hearforthepuns[S] 1 point2 points ago

I don't know the exact measurements but I'd guess that it's about 10ft x 3ft. Not a lot of space. So all of those containers you've linked would be a bit too big I think. The strawberry tower I linked seems like a good option because of the high plants:floor space ratio, and I suppose I could fill them with soil instead too. And/or maybe put a wick in the middle of the pipe, and make some sort of self-watering contraption.

The reason the NFT channel looked good is that I can hang it off the railing and not take up any floor space at all, as well as not being too heavy. I suppose I could build a planter box to do the same thing.

Stuff like this is an option too, but for the amount of plants I'd like to have, would be quite expensive.

Thanks for the soil link. I'll have to read through that later when I have more time.

Nobody doubts that it can be done... It's just an extremely inefficient way to transfer power. The highest-power transmitters are in the tens or sometimes hundreds of kilowatts.

Please tell me that you don't keep that for yourself. I'm pretty sure that could be considered fraud.
