I give credit for the free electricity bit to my best friend who was a property attorney. I still can't believe they agreed to that, as we were paying 2500-3000 $US for electricity every month. I have no idea what it would be now — we are running a two ton AC for our server room that we weren't using before. :-)

V440 is running Xinet's asset management suite, and also provides AFP connectivity to the server for all of our Mac users.

I'm running Solaris 10 on this system and am keeping it around because of ZFS. Oddly enough, Xinet doesn't make Solaris x86 binaries of their suite — only binaries for Solaris Sparc. If I switch to Linux, I lose ZFS. Even more weird is that they still support Irix, but not Solaris x86. Dorks.

That's because the case is technically a heat sink. If the thing was made out of any material that's an insulator, you have to have noisier fans to move the hot air.
