TROPHY CASE

A physics problem with only two steps!? by Chocolatebodyin EngineeringStudents

As a non-engineer who subscribes to this subreddit just to occasionally learn a new thing or two, this one has me scratching my head.

Can someone clarify what's going on?

Wow that's impressive. I saw the elite men's race this weekend -- top athletes from around the globe. They finished just below your time. Amazing -- congrats!

I wish I knew -- it was sent to me without the link, and now I'm on a manhunt to find out who this "largest human who ever lived" is.

The /fitness subreddit has a user-managed guide called "Starting Strength" -- is there anything similar here for someone wanting to learn to code? Would be a great sidebar addition. by gtjin learnprogramming

Good explanation and questions.

Thinking it over, the things that I'd love to achieve via programming in one year:

  • Possible iPhone app idea that finds information based on geographical location (with pre-existing info, like wikipedia). And another app idea that helps people determine the right ratio of ingredients for baking.
  • Finally figure out how to do stuff with Arduino. Motor controller stuff.
  • Maybe some simple online calculators -- most seem to be made already, but I'm always looking for more.

I suspect those three areas might use different languages. But if there's a good spot to start some super basic learning, I'd love to get pointed in that direction.

And I wasn't posting that to accuse you of doing so, just a funny comment is all.

Now, if karma was dollars...

Sadly, I'm so novice at this that I don't really know the pros and cons of the different languages. 15 years ago I took a couple weeks of a Java programming class and was just over my head from day one, the whole class already seemed to know C, and the teacher catered to them rather than those with no background like myself.

At this point, I'd say that Java is probably too outdated to be interesting to me (plus, lingering frustrations make it unappealing). What are the pros and cons of the options?

Thank you.

Sounds like someone's still upset about Peter Jackson's King Kong.

I'm the guy that posted it as a "self post" and lost out on 1000 karma points.

Oh well, they're pointless and I have more than enough anyway.

Mural by Famed NY Artist Destroyed ~ Downtown LA by 2WARin LosAngeles

[–]gtj 0 points1 point ago

I thought this was going to talk about all the classic and great LA murals that have been defaced by really bad graffiti. Who are the people that squirt those streams of paint onto everything around here? That's the real crime we should be fighting.
