My friend died in a car accident last night. Here is a picture for one of the best fishing trips we had. 12 lb King, Belmont harbor, Lake Michigan. by motordemonin Fishing

Sorry for your loss. Maybe an annual fishing trip in memory of your friend would be cool.

FLICKR CAN SUCK MY BALLS. THIS IS NOT ON. by squeakiin angry

[–]grumpyoldgit 0 points1 point ago

This is a totally fair answer, a grace period would have been nice, but you can't tell he didn't get one from the image. Also, it's not possible to know that Flickr didn't send an email to highlight that the service was coming to it's expiry.

I'm not siding with Flickr but what did you think would happen when your pro account ended?

What the heck is this? "Highlight"? Looks like someone is trying to compensate that 11bn they lost in value a couple of days ago. by Baghdadificationin facebook

Any person or company that pays to highlight a post wont be on my friend list long. This seems a bit ill conceived.

Raspberry Pi, meet your competition - a reference design available right now, worldwide. by Sailerin linux

[–]grumpyoldgit 0 points1 point ago

I think this is a tiny bit unfair. The Raspberry PI wasn't just designed to be a cheap computer alternative, the whole concept was that it would be a super cheap for education and the developing world and they needed to keep the prices as low as possible.

A good example of why people who can't visualize things very well aren't so good at math. Once I saw this something I had previously found confusing became very clear. Exactly the same happened when I saw the GIF showing a representation of PI.

This is probably true, we likely only got this far by being largely self serving. Ultimately I still think it will kill us. In fact I think it already is.

I hear people saying they don't want to be old or have to require any assistance to live and that they'd rather just pass on. I say fuck that, I'll be squeezing every last second whether I can wipe my own arse or not!

How would the planet survive this. If people started living significantly longer at the same time as not advancing sufficiently to colonize other planets surely longer life would ultimately be a massive disaster. I'd suspect any real advancement of old age would have to be kept to a sufficient expense that few could afford it.

I wish there was an afterlife

I've often wondered how awesome it would be to sit and watch the universe move forward for eternity.

Then ultimately, regardless of how happy or successful you are you will be looking back thinking where the bloody hell did it all go. One minute you're sitting in class with your chums, next thing you're in a tedious management meeting wondering about your kids exams. The decades in between seem like nothing.
