TROPHY CASE

Upside Down Apple Logo by dzamirin apple

[–]greyjay 4 points5 points ago

I'd be willing to bank the number one reason they switched it is because the Apple logo on the laptop is a selling tool. It's a small piece of branding thats prime purpose is selling more laptops to potential buyers. It's not meant to reinforce the brand to someone who has already bought the laptop, there are hundreds of other things that are already doing that embedded in the operating system and throughout the user experience.

With the current orientation of the Apple logo, every time someone opens their laptop, they've essentially set up a little billboard advertising Apple for everyone in their near vicinity to see. It's even backlit to draw attention. Before the logogram was oriented this way, it was a poor advertisement and I'm sure some marketers in a big board room argued it worked against brand clarity.

Seems like a no brainer for Apple to switch it to its current state.

Personally, I dislike being a billboard for products—so brave, I know—but even if I do think they have a fantastic product, I've already paid a shit-ton for their services, and I'd appreciate not being included in their marketing campaign without being asked to. I'm not going to say, "Apple, how dare you make a billboard out of a product I bought from you," because I recognize that's an unfortunate part of competitive business today; however, I do think it would be a well-received risk for them to remove the Apple logo entirely from the back of the laptop—their laptop design standing on its own is already a very recognizable product—but the cynic in me doesn't see that ever happening.

Anyway, sorry for the coffee rant. Simple solution: cover Apple logo with sticker.

Looks great, but all I can think is: splinters. How are your sister and her boyfriend handling that issue? Old palettes are like little factories for splinters.

It can have the tendency to blow images out a bit when shot in direct sunlight, or those with low color information. If you want to adjust the curves manually, toggle the dialog on for the second "set current adjustment layer" function, and then run the action from the beginning. Now, when it gets to the final curves function, you will be able to manually adjust your image. Hope that made some sense!

I remember this. Was such a disappointment. Not that the MTV music video awards ever really meant anything, but what a crock of shit that the Sabotage video didn't win anything that year. I would still place it among the top ten music videos ever made.

I had the pleasure of seeing UCB do live improv of this style on a few different occasions when they brought their show to LA for a short little stint (before the UCB theatre had opened in LA). The guests I saw were David Cross on one night and Horatio Sans on another. Sarah Silverman and Brian Posehn were there as well. I gained so much respect for Amy Poehler those nights, she had me in tears. A lot of people know she's funny from her work on SNL and Parks & Rec, but people often don't realize just how brilliant of an improvisational comedian she really is.

Needs more head space between "Blue Planet Writer's Room" and the top cut line. Bring it down a few shift clicks.

Ahhhh. I see. Thanks, you too. I'm listening now. Immediate first impression is they kind of have a less organic Pocahaunted thing going on.

Good catch. I immediately noticed it wasn't Helvetica and thought it was Arial with a faux-bold on it.

I've no clue what that font is. It was a long morning. I should have just left it at "tracking" and called it day. </shame>

Great time last night. Thanks again for being a good person and hosting a bunch of strangers. Count me in for Episode 4.

As a side note, cannot, for the life of me, find jack-shit on Miss. Impossibly difficult band name to search on the internet. Shoot me something online if you have a link.

EDIT: Thanks for the insta-downvotes r/portland. Classy. xo

Yeah, ampersand is an issue too. I know it should join two items that go together as a single unit (peas & carrots, Bonnie & Clyde), but I can see it getting used for spacial/artistic reasons. In this case, the ampersand is being used as the Latin et, synonymous with and. The missing *comma just bothered me more.

EDIT: I'm retarded.

business card printers? by Angry__Jonnyin Portland

[–]greyjay 0 points1 point ago

I'm a professional freelance designer, and naturally super picky about my printers, but for online printing, it really doesn't get much better than moo.com. They do small runs and their quality TOWERS above everyone else I've tried for online printing. When it comes to your standard business card, it's where I send all of my work.

Also, they do have a referral system, so I get a little kick back, and you get 10% off if you click this link instead of the one above. But honestly, they are great, and I don't want to seem like I'm trying to sell them just for the referral. So I have the normal link above.

Game of Thrones Season 2: Episode 3 screening at the Peach Pit (my apartment). by Peaches666in Portland

[–]greyjay 0 points1 point ago

Mildly disappointed they took all the recipes down off of the Inn at the Crossroads (ASoIaF food blog) in anticipation of their cookbook being published. I understand, I'd just buy the book if I could, but it doesn't come out till May.
