I think once we have sentient machines they will be recognized as persons quickly enough . I think the culture series by Ian m banks shows a good model for what a future with sentient machines will look like.

Here is a recipe for a habanero hot sauce:
* 1/2 lb habaneros
* 5 red bell peppers
* 3 yellow onions
* 10 cloves of garlic
* salt peper garlic powder red pepper, cayenne pepper, rice vinegar, lemon juice.

Simmer the bell peppers onion and garlic in enough water to just cover them, lid on pot. with 1 cup of vinegar, 1/2 lemon jucie and a large dash each of the spices 2 hours.
Blend them and stain the blended results into a bowl, to remove large chunks of bell pepper skin. with out the water, just the veggies. Keep the water though.
Destem the habs and blend them with some of the simmer water left over from before and mix this paste in with the pulp fom before.
Salt and pepper to taste.
if too thick add some of the left over h20
Sorry for being a dick!

If you are in SD then I think you can get it on your own, if not google it, if google doesn't come up with anything I can ask the owner of the mexican restaurant next to my restaurant for a hot sauce recipe.
whats the score here?

Exxon Makes $104 Million In Profit Per Day So Far In 2012, While Americans Are Stuck With A Higher Gas Bill by twolf1in politics

[–]greeed 0 points1 point ago

And as I said before, record oil company profits and record high gas prices are more than likely related.

What is your empirical evidence for this claim. It may be true but it seams like you're just wishing it to be true so you can hold a grudge against petroleum producers. It would seam to me that new exploration, horizontal drilling, reworking of old fields, steam and hydro injection and other new tech is what's driving a resurgence in oil profits. Today oil explorers and petroleum geologists are able to more accurately pinpoint reserves and have developed ways of pulling more barrels from each hole they drill. Smarter drilling and extraction has more to do with record profits then higher per barrel price. And remember the division which is showing the record profits is the upstream production section of Exxon; not the gasoline downstream retailer or wholesale sections of Exxon-Mobile.

Any business will charge the highest price that a market will bare. It's just how it works.

And this really comes down to corporate responsibility and human decency.

A corporations sole responsibility as a publicly traded entity is to maximise returns to its shareholders. So yeah it is about corporate responsibility. Human decency is not a factor in corporate decisions beyond what is best for its image and shareholders.

Exxon Makes $104 Million In Profit Per Day So Far In 2012, While Americans Are Stuck With A Higher Gas Bill by twolf1in politics

[–]greeed 0 points1 point ago

Not much, as discussed in the comments OPEC is the main contributor to the price of oil, them and speculators. Any business will charge the highest price that a market will bare. It's just how it works.
If the profitability of oil production shrank then the incentive to produce and invest in new oil production technologies would also shrink. This would lead to a dearth of production then as demand remained static or increased an incremental price increase would fallow.
Exxon is constantly pushing the technology of oil exploration forward and thusly enjoys high profits as a market segment leader. These high profits are the incentive to drill and until something replaces hydrocarbon fuels oil is the only game in town.
People give oil companies a lot of grief for making money but I don't see them voting with their wallets and buying solar charged ev's or riding a bike everyday. If you are opposed to exxons huge profit stop giving them your money!
