The headline refers to this: http://www.desmoinesregister.com/article/20120525/NEWS09/305250025/1001/

...not the USA Today repackaging.

Or shit about keeping people who've never tried drugs from using drugs.

That it is inaccurate is not nearly as annoying as how ineffective it would appear to be.

Another Thorium petition on Whitehouse.gov this one due by June 10th by RandomFlotsamin ThoriumRemix

[–]gordonmcdowell 2 points3 points ago

These do move faster once 150 signatures have been collected. So right now it is at 192 (it was at 150 yesterday, after sitting below 150 since May 11). It is visible right now on Open Petitions page... https://wwws.whitehouse.gov/petitions#!/petitions

So I know reaching 25k is long shot presently, but these things are still another valid means of propagating info until then.

Does this exist- Tiny mic for iPod Nano 6G (6th Gen)? I see (needlessly big) thumbtack works with Nano 4G not 6G. by gordonmcdowellin applehelp

I was at an Apple store, and it does with mic-headphones. A new option pops up you'd never otherwise see.

I don't think plugging in the tack would bring this up... it is probably some smarts built into the mic that needs to be licensed from Apple, were-as I suspect the older models didn't require such smarts to be built into the mic.

New look at prolonged radiation exposure: At low dose-rate, radiation poses little risk to DNA, study suggests by Maslo55in science

Are old conclusion better? When does a new conclusion turn into an old conclusion? Does the quality of the conclusion increase with age in a linear fashion, or is there a particular amount of time that needs to have passed?

So based on your unsubstantiated comment, the study must be flawed. Thank you for clearing this up!

What Steve Jobs might say, on the subject of new DVD & BluRay 20 second unskippable copyright warnings. [Lifted from why Mac boot times should be as short as possible.] by gordonmcdowellin apple

In Canada, I can't BUY videos on Apple TV, only rent. Is it like that in USA?

So I can BUY them on iPad (which sometimes costs the same as renting on Apple TV), then play them through to the Apple TV.

Didn't realize you could stream on the iPad right after purchase... must try doing that through to the TV.

YouTube slow/endlessly buffering on AppleTV? by truthjusticeUSAwayin apple

[–]gordonmcdowell 1 point2 points ago

I had to change network settings to DNS 8.8.8.8 I believe. Sorry I could be wrong am away from device. But it was NOT a change to router it was altering IP config on Apple TV itself.

At any rate I am sure it is solvable if u keep searching.

At least commercials serve a purpose. A commercial is focus group tested. Someone out there (not necessarily you or me) gleams some sort of information from it. I don't usually like commercials, but I respect that there is value there. They help fund content creation, etc.

I seriously doubt the copyright warnings have been tested (or thought though) to the extent even a small national advertising campaign would be.

We all see it: They're telling people who have paid not to steal. I'd like to see the guy behind this defend it with numbers illustrating effectiveness.

They've got years of data from the previous DVD warning messages, I'm sure. 20 seconds can't just be a duration pulled out of someone's ass. That must be the optimal balance between inconvenience and delivering a critical message to their law abiding customers.

When are the 2012 Macbook Pros expected? by I_DUCK_FOGSin apple

I did something like this. Was painful. And a bit more expensive because needed lots of USB3. But I can say there isn't a lot of Ivy Bridge competition out there yet.

I got 2nd Gen Intel. The only 3rd gen (from Dell) were AlienWare bricks. (Except in Australia. Weird.)
