also feel free to let her know what you think about what she's doing, and that maybe she should focus on legitimate problems in society

Yeah she has it out for anything Marijuana related and unfortunately she's my rep. She showed up in the comments section of a patch.com article when the decriminalization bill was passed and was spouting a lot of typical scare nonsense about gateway drugs, and she referenced and misrepresented some biased studies. There were a ton of far more informed people setting her straight in the comments and she argued for a bit then left, clearly defeated.

Does my dream case exist? by rydmcalboyin ipad

[–]funkstick 0 points1 point ago

I'm really happy with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Poetic-HardBack-Protective-Built-Folding/dp/B007HBLX5G

Only downside is that it doesn't quite fold flat to the back and/or snap in there. But it has many viewing angles, more flexibility that the smart case alone, is very thin and has a semi-hard back but still exposes some of the bezel.

I wish they would start the stream a few minutes earlier, sometimes they wait up until seconds before the first pitch to turn the stream on but if you watch archive games they have more pregame (lineups, etc).

Easiest way to travel from Harrisburg PA to New York City using a combination of car and train/subway. by digividualin nyc

[–]funkstick 0 points1 point ago

Yes the last direct train leaves NYC at 630 PM. There's also a train that leaves at 9 PM that has a 20 min "layover" in Philly that would get you back to Harrisburg before 1AM.

[–]funkstick 2 points3 points ago*

Yeah this is the way to go. It's a little over 3 hrs each way and trains run every 2-3 hrs. They usually aren't overbooked so you can switch trains last minute if you want. $100 round trip - parking, gas and tolls will eat that up real quick.

Why is it when a group of people sing (like fans at a concert) the vocals sound completely in tune? Even when each individual is not singing in tune. by Samsungasongin askscience

[–]funkstick 2 points3 points ago

with two voices, yes, but with a large number the waveform becomes complex enough that our ears do perceive an average pitch. if everyone was all over the map it would be just noise but if we assume even 50% of the people are singing in tune and the other 50% are just a little off in either direction your brain processes the average.

[–]funkstick 2 points3 points ago

Actually, while this is true, there is a simpler answer. The average pitch (and overtones) of a large number of voices averages out to be "in tune". So basically there are enough people who are sharp, flat, and in tune to average each other out which our ear interprets as the correct pitches.

while you are correct that there are no park spaces shown don't forget that the landscape there in Nevada looked exactly like Mars before that development was built. There was no nature to flatten.

Radiohead Frontman Warns Music Labels will Die Soon by Horwardin entertainment

[–]funkstick 1 point2 points ago

They are "required" in the system they created. Artists and songs spread much more organically than they used to and employing hoards of people to call radio stations, takedown YouTube videos, and milk the flavor of the month is not as useful as it used to be. My dream is that music kind of becomes the ultimate free market where the best rises to the top based on what appeals to the masses and not what gets promoted the heaviest.

[X-Post from r/amateurengineering] How to "Silence" or at least reduce the noise from your Shop-Vac by roboboy1in howto

[–]funkstick 3 points4 points ago

3db is the "just noticeable difference". 10 db is perceived as twice as loud (and is twice the sound power). 6 db is significant but I bet you can do better. Use a rigid fiberglass as your absorber instead of the foam. It's. more sound absorptant at the frequencies you need to attenuate. Drill some more holes in your center piece of PVC. You want it as open as possible. The key is to expose as much fiberglass to the intake opening without restricting the airflow (too much and you out undue strain on the vac motor).

If you want to hang a barrier make it more solid, piece of plywood with fiberglass foam on the back side.

Houses for rent/realtor in fairfield county/Norwalk area by pylitin Connecticut

[–]funkstick 0 points1 point ago

It varies I think, but the owner definitely pays too. I had to split the commission when I rented an apartment in Norwalk a few years back. Maybe if the renter is desperate or with the market the way it is you can negotiate. Or maybe I just got screwed.

Houses for rent/realtor in fairfield county/Norwalk area by pylitin Connecticut

[–]funkstick 1 point2 points ago

Hey I bought a house in Redding recently (and work in Norwalk) but my realtor was a douche so I'm not going to recommend him. The rub here is you might have to pay a months rent for a realtor to find a place, you might have better luck searching some rental places out on Trulia or Zillow and contacting the listing agent directly. Hit me up if you are new to the area and need help with a location, I can help with that.

As I only have two ears, why am I able to distinguish a sound coming from a source in front of me from one coming from a source behind me? by juna64in askscience

[–]funkstick 0 points1 point ago

The lack of front/back awareness is most easily rectified by turning your head! In reality you are rarely in a perfectly symmetrical environment, so between turning your head, visual clues and the acoustical environment around you it's near impossible for this to be a problem in everyday life. But under controlled conditions (a dark symmetrical empty room, your head held immobile and a sound directly in front or behind you) it gets freaky.

Purchasing a house in the near future and need advice (not a normal arrangement, details inside) by tsulahmiin personalfinance

[–]funkstick 1 point2 points ago

Even assuming your father pays for the updating, there are a lot of hidden costs to owning a home larger than you need that will quickly eat up your income. Taxes, insurance, utilities, and upkeep/repairs (especially with a pool) are analogous to house size. Not to mention furnishing a large house. These will inevitably come and will quickly eat up your income. Unless you are confident your father will keep covering maintenance costs, I'd look for something you can cover yourselves. 50k is a good down payment, you'll kick yourselves later if you have a nice house but no disposable income to play with.
