I hate when people see a kid with a modern device (eg: PSP, DS, ipod, laptop, tablet) and assume that that is all they do, like it's replaced the active stuff or that it's sapping their imagination and feeding them a passive, lazy version of "playtime".

My son loves gadgets and all they can do but he also loves camping, playing sports, reading books, animals and a ton of other stuff. In fact half the time he speeds on the computer is checking out info on the stuff he is onto.

When I was a little kid my uncle got his hands on some old ass car from the 20's or 30's. Apparently there were a total of less than 10 of them in all of Australia. He proceeded to turn that thing into a hot rod. Still not sure if what he did was awesome (having the only hot rod version of a rare car in the entire country) or awful (turning a rare car into a hot rod instead of restoring it).

I live in Santa Cruz.

Have a sweatshirt with you in SF and Santa Cruz - the fog can roll in off the ocean and drop the temperature quickly. You can guarantee it will be freezing on Alcatrz.

The Boardwalk in Santa Cruz is a whole lot of fun, make sure you ride the giant dipper. Downtown is nice in Santa Cruz as well.

Also - make sure you hit up the subreddits for each city you are going to ( eg:http://www.reddit.com/r/santacruz/ and http://www.reddit.com/r/sanfrancisco/), there are always posts asking for things to do/see - do a search of the subreddits for these posts. Here's some from /r/santacruz

I have only installed and used wine on an ubuntu system, but it did work very well for the specific purpose I needed it for (running an old windows music production app).

Did you see this guide?. It seems to have a pretty detailed tutorial on installing wine (including uninstall info).
