I'm not trying to be a dick, but it's actually A before E "Graeter's". I did an F3 and was disappointed that no one mentioned them until I finally stumbled upon yours. It's the best thing that ever come out of Cincinnati, Oh.

That's not R2D2... It's Stardust! I should feel ashamed for having seen that.

My dad was in the Navy, and I have a few of his old photographs of him. The uniform hasn't really changed that much since then, and I have to agree... It's looks like something straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting.

So how are you defining "near"? Type "military base" into google maps, and you'll see what I mean. You get around any populated area, and you're going to find military. Also I was commuting 40 miles to where my unit was, and that's not really all that uncommon. BTW, units aren't always on a base either. Another interesting fact is that the US Military employs more people than any private employer in the US. There's a whopping 1.4 million Walmart employees, and we still outnumber them!

Before I joined, I used to never notice how much military there was creeping around out there. Believe me... We're everywhere.

[–]f2x 2 points3 points ago

It depends on the situation, really. My unit was in Ohio. Just because I was in the Army doesn't mean I should have to hide myself from the delicate eyes of the civilians. On my lunch hour I wasn't about to change into civies before I left the unit to grab a bite to eat. If I was on my way home from the unit and needed to get gas or stop at the grocery to buy some bread or milk, I was just in and out. It's not a cry for attention, I'm not getting special discounts, and I'm not trying to recruit anybody. Even in uniform, I'm a normal person just like anybody else.

While there are douchebags who run around sporting ACU's as a fashion statement, some of us merely have jobs working in and around civilian populations. You're bound to see one of us once in a while, so I hope you don't judge us all so harshly.

A guy I knew in the military did this. Got into trouble for it too. It's a uniform, not a costume.

He also says "soy latte" that I mistook for a "solar latte". I still think I'd like to try a solar latte with my low fat fried chicken.

My new years resolution? by xadzin AdviceAnimals

I've been using a 40" 1080p television as an extended monitor for my laptop now for the past year and a half. I haven't had any problems with this setup. It's great for image editing and watching videos. I honestly don't know how I ever lived without it, and I'm from the old school with a TRS80 back in the early 80's.

It wasn't what you said. It was the smug way in which you said it.

Great article. I'm going to repost it to /r/hypothyroidism, which is replete with the sort of anti-scientific garbage mentioned in the link.

How nice.

Thanks for stopping by.

I went to someone's user page and downvoted everything by thrattyin funny

[–]f2x 0 points1 point ago

Here's the code (not mine). Just create a bookmark and paste this in as the location. Then you can downvote everything on a page. Change the .down to .up to upvote everything.

javascript:(function%20w(){var%20u=$(".down");if(u.length-1){setTimeout(w,1000);u[1].onclick()}})()

It's been around for a long time now, but it still works. Sometimes I'll use it to upvote an entire subreddit or thread that I like. Especially if I post something and people reply... even the jerks get an upvote as my way of saying, thanks for watching!

What is the weirdest thing you like to do when alone (that isn't NSFW)? by kalliopehmin AskReddit

[–]f2x 9 points10 points ago

Deep down, I'm still a child. I pretend and act out various fantasy adventures and other imaginative thoughts that aren't likely to ever happen in real life. It usually involves space travel, building robots, and using telekinesis. It's cheap entertainment for me, but I suppose any eavesdropper would think it was pretty weird.

Of all the smelly things to find in my gym bag... by xmadison84in aww

[–]f2x 12 points13 points ago

My previous cat of 14 years, Henry passed away a little over two years ago. I wrapped him in towels and placed him in a gym bag to transport him for cremation. Afterwards, I put that gym bag away. A couple months passed, and I got a new kitten and named him Alex. He was the same basic make and model but had a completely different personality than Henry.

Then one day I needed to go on a short trip so I got that old gym bag out and without thinking I tossed it on the floor next to where Henry passed away. I went to gather the things I was going to pack into it. When I came back Alex was hiding inside the bag. It stirred up some weird emotions of grief, horror, and "aww".

I'm going to agree with Tom2Die. This text looks very familiar, and I think it goes back quite a ways. Oh look... I just googled it. LINK. I'm sure this isn't the original source either. It just some old crap that somebody thought was clever.

BTW, I am an Army veteran, I put my pants on one leg at a time like everybody else, and I agree with your statement. (As if that makes any difference.)

What can I do about SOPA? by theunionstreetin AskReddit

[–]f2x 0 points1 point ago

Look, I'm not supposed to tell you this, but just sit back, grab some popcorn, and watch the show.

People want you to believe the internet is in some kind of horrible danger. Maybe it is to some degree, but if it makes it into law, it will likely only impact our lives about as much as the DMCA. In fact, you should have seen the outpouring of hostilities on Slashdot back when that shit hit the fan.

Here's the scoop: If they really fuck up the internet, people will just stop using it. /r/darknetplan is something I'm hopeful about, but probably isn't going to come up a good answer. In any event, someone always comes out with a new "thing" that makes up for any deficit. Meanwhile, all those corporations that bullied to make it law suddenly realize that the cash cow they bought from politicians is now dead from atrophy. Things change. Just accept it.

Corporations have owned the internet for a long time now. You're just renting time on it. If you let yourself get too worked up about it and jump into the fight, you'll find that you're fighting someone else's battles for them because you thought it was your own.

History is unfolding right in front of you. Learn from it.

How can I fuck-proof my bed so that my roommate doesn't fuck on it while I'm away for a few weeks? by umryanin AskReddit

[–]f2x 123 points124 points ago

Get a sheet of plywood the same size as your bed. Take off the sheets, lay it on top, then remake the bed. Bonus points for driving a bunch of nails through the plywood to make it a bed of nails. Even if they do the nasty, you can just wash the sheets and rest comfy knowing that your mattress is free of sex juice.
