TROPHY CASE

Agile slaves: "Instead of becoming enlightened freethinkers, they've drunk the Kool-Aid and joined the Cult of Agile." by yaserbuntuin programming

Exactly. That's why I would prefer the "scrummaster" to rotate through people rather than to be some project manager who got their scrummaster certification.

If you're spending a lot of time in scrum meetings, you're doing it wrong.

I've noticed a lot of PMP/scrummasters try to have these hour long scrums every day. It's like they took the worst part of waterfall and agile methodologies and mixed in unsuccessful projects into one horrible practice.

I think it's more about smart, productive people than actually following a particular methodology. I'd rather work with geniuses doing non-agile projects than idiots following every tenet of agile to the letter.

I learned the most ever when I was a super green coder "driving" for a zen master. I learned more in that month or two than the following years.

We had a serious project and only one guy understood a big chunk of all our custom data access API. He would constantly get distracted and pulled in 10 different directions. Since I was the dumbest/youngest one on the team, I was assigned to sit with him all day and work through debugging. I would type whatever he told me and I asked him about 20 questions an hour. I learned a lot. Overall productivity went up, but he probably hated having an idiot kid pestering him all the time.

Agile doesn't require pair programming. I find pair programming works best for introverts because you just code instead of chitchatting.

I'm not a fan of pair programming. But I think people like messing around and reading reddit, etc. rather than coding and think they can't do this if they are pair programming.

I'm found that programmers are pretty big into fucking off. This is actually good because the best programmers drink coffee or whatever for 7.5 hours and then be brilliant for .5 hours, while some real idiots work constantly for 12 hours and produce little useful code. This works because few managers actually understand (or care) how time is spent.

Because you would need to pay corporate tax on the income of the LLC and then capital gains on the draw (i.e., that would be stupid).

This would only be advantageous if you could keep all of your personal expenses as LLC expenses, but that's pretty hard to do.

In S-Corps (not LLCs and not C-corps) you can take a K-1 distribution and skip the social security taxes, but you still pay personal income, not capital gains.

Organic beef. But I pretend it's bear meat. by DiscoToastin Paleo

[–]execute85 1 point2 points ago

Yeah, it's tough to find grass-fed near me. Unfortunately, organic is missing all the great benefits of grassfed and there are no demonstrated health benefits.

Grassfed = better fats, lower calorie; organic = expensive, but peace of mind.

Just A Reminder: 'Fruit' Drinks Are Awful For You by aIecbeein Fitness

So it goes in the category with coke and ice cream and jelly beans and spoonfulls of sugar.

Just A Reminder: 'Fruit' Drinks Are Awful For You by aIecbeein Fitness

[–]execute85 -1 points0 points ago

Since juice is almost all sugar, there's a better drink that's high calorie.

Again, juice isn't toxic, but it's not good for you.

And "fruit drink" is usually barely juice (like OP says) and is basically just kool-aid or some other crap.

Can we talk about this: Losing weight is 80% diet. Fix the diet FIRST. by 88leoin Fitness

[–]execute85 10 points11 points ago

I think this is used for people who are pretty largely overweight and want to lose 2 pounds+/week. To lose 2 pounds you need to have a 7000 calorie deficit.

People who are fat can rarely exercise to burn 1000 calories a day. But they can reduce a 3000 cal/day diet to 1700 through discipline and then add in 200-400 in exercise.

So I think it starts out 80/20, but as people get close to a healthy weight it actually inverts as people are healthy enough to exercise to create a deficit.

My personal example as an ex-fat who lost over 100 pounds over 2011, I could barely exercise 300 cals a day, now I can do a pretty decent workout in an hour to burn 600-900 calories.

Of course, this doesn't mean that exercise isn't important. Just that it's not as important as diet for weight loss. For overall health, exercise is obviously very important (cardio health, etc. etc.)

Skip the juice. Eat the whole fruit. Way better for you.

Just A Reminder: 'Fruit' Drinks Are Awful For You by aIecbeein Fitness

[–]execute85 -2 points-1 points ago

I think "awful for you" is accurate. It's pretty bad for any fitness or weight loss program. It's in the same category as ice cream. Actually, you're probably better off with a serving of Ben & Jerry's (300 cals) over a bottle of Naked juice (400 cals).

I mean it won't kill you, but fruit drinks are bad for you. "Juice for life" is stupid. You are way better off eating whole fruit and skipping juice altogether.

favourite protein shake flavour with water? by unlovelyin Fitness

It's pretty good, but expensive.

They sell giant containers of IsoPure that are pretty good mixed with water. I use Cookies and Cream mixed with water and cinnamon. Not amazing, but definitely drinkable.

$100 Tailored Suit in India. What does MFA think? by SRTheCzarin malefashionadvice

India does not have a reputation for male fashion. They also don't have a reputation for quality garments for men.

If you want cheap suits try Bangkok or Hong Kong next time.

Concern Regarding New Posting Guidelines for NSVs and Progress Pictures. by Luseyin loseit

[–]execute85 14 points15 points ago

Sounds like a problem that is easily solved (greasemonkey script, more mods, whatever).

This also seems like a non-problem as if the subreddit doesn't like it, they will just downvote the post. Why not skip all the rules altogether. You might not have a pretty subreddit, but perhaps you could form /r/niceandcleanandprettylookingandeasytomoderatebutunusedbyanyone (I think it's still available for now).

Can we vote or something? I too like the progress picture threads on r/loseit.

Is there more documentation as to how the mods came to this decision? Was there some polling of the community that I totally missed?

It seems pretty evident based on the score of the posts that the community didn't mind.

Oh yeah, it's pretty lame to force your kids to do stuff (especially things you wish you had done, etc. etc.). But I live vicariously through my kids because they do awesome stuff, usually because they are completely ignoring my advice.

I mean, I also do my own stuff. But the vicarious living thing is a bonus.

If you don't like kids, don't have them. It's as simple as that.

But I didn't think I'd like oysters, tried them and now I like them. (but also I didn't think I'd like turnip greens, tried them and really hate them)

What's so wrong with living vicariously. Since one can have multiple children, you get much more "living" out of life if you live vicariously through multiple children. Obviously, your children can do things you never could (most basic if they are the opposite gender of you).

Also, it's not like there's an exclusive choice of do cool stuff or have kids. The best choice is to do both.
