Problem is that as much as you try, there are always some stupid people out there. I was parked in my car at a stop light, and been rear ended. Also been side swiped while parked. If I was on a motorcycle, I doubt I would have walked away from either of those unscathed. Not dead, but surely not uninjured.

Which run tracking website do you think is the best? by VaccusMonasticain running

If you are interested.

Download Ruby 1.9.3-p194 from HERE Run installer, CHECK the following boxes:

Add Ruby executables to your PATH
Associate .rb and .rbw files with this Ruby installation

Download and save this to a directory: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2809/garmin_ruby_setup.cmd

Open a NEW command prompt and run the above batch file (will download a root certificate & install ruby prerequisites)

Download the Garmin Download Script HERE (right-click and Save File As) from:

Modify it, look for the line that says:

ACTIVITIES_SEARCH = "http://connect.garmin.com/proxy/activity-search-service-1.0/json/activities?_dc=
1220170621856&start=0&limit=1000"

Change "limit" to this:

ACTIVITIES_SEARCH = "http://connect.garmin.com/proxy/activity-search-service-1.0/json/activities?_dc=
1220170621856&start=0&limit=100"

This will download the first 100 activities.

Now just run from the command line:

disconnect.rb -u garmin.username

Then type in your password, and bam, this will download them all as TCX files.

If you need up to 200 activities, then change the "start" value (this will download the 2nd set of 100 activities):

ACTIVITIES_SEARCH = "http://connect.garmin.com/proxy/activity-search-service-1.0/json/activities?_dc=
1220170621856&start=100&limit=100"

If you know any coding, it is very easy to change it to download GPX files, or I can help you tomorrow if you are interested. I am going to bed, so if you get stuck and need help, just send me a PM.

Yes! One of my favorite runs, you can run almost forever without having to deal with cars :) Although right now I am restricted to running just that route due to a strained achilles (trying not to run any hills), not that I am complaining.

My watch uploads to Garmin, then I export to both Runkeeper and Endomondo. But overall, I prefer Runkeeper for the looks, reports, and social aspect.

I am updating as I try out all of the different sites, and giving my thoughts on each. Click on the links for what the same run looks like on each site.

Garmin My watch uploads directly to here which is the least hassle. Very clean interface, good overall tracking, but reports a little lacking. Can't find any social aspect to it.

Endomondo Not as nice of an interface, but nothing horrible. Like how it shows the best distances (1K, 1M, 5K, 10K, etc..) within a run. Hate how I have to login all of the time. I think there is supposed to be a social aspect, I added a friend, but I do not see how to even look at her runs without her sending me a link in email. Basic reporting functionality.

Runkeeper Cleanest interface in my opinion. Love the social aspect of it, keeping track of friends and them encouraging me. Like the personal records tracking, always nice to know you did a good job, and then have it validated. Reports can do almost anything. If I were to give it a con, it would have to be that I haven't seen almost any changes worth mentioning (slow code development). I do not like their data policy, they pretty much state that they own your data and other sites can not store it.

MapMyRUN I'll admit i'm biased here. First site I paid for, had tons of issues with importing runs and having things wrong with them. Interface is non-intuitive to me, too many page click throughs to find what I need. To give it a pro, it is nice to track food on the same site, not that I use it.

SmashRun can't import GPX file. Using the hacked import from Nike+, was able to check it out. Nice stats, although a little cluttered. No map which is a killer for me. Like the badges, always good to introduce new forms of encouragement.

Nike+ can't import GPX file. Took the time to hack around it by using this tool to check it out. Must have an account to view, a big no-no. Site is way too over engineered (even the beta site), but doable. Like the ability to tag weather and terrain, but a lot of work needs to happen to make this usable.

RunningAhead Don't like how it imports the GPX file in the background, and then you have to sit around and wait for it to process, and then you have to come back later and save it (I've tried this 3 times now, didn't get any better for me). Can't share a link to your run (you have to have an account). LOVE the ability to add in weather and report off it. Ugly site as others have said, but could possibly overlook it if it didn't have other issues.

Strava Really like the direction this site is going. Clean interface, best stats, LOVE the segments feature (mark a section of your run to track how you did on it over time, or beat others who have run that same segment). Ability to track which shoes you wore during the run. No reporting that I can find yet which is absolutely critical. Really pricey at 6 dollars/month which adds on HR information. Will keep an eye on this site.

WalkJogRun can't import GPX file. Sorry, but if you are missing this basic functionality, then there isn't anything there for me.

DailyMile Have to be logged in to really view anything more than simple statistics, I don't like this because I share some runs with friends and family who don't have accounts. Has a map, basic logging, but no graphs or charts for details on the run, and no split information. Really like the social aspect, and you can join running groups which sort of compete against others on the site. Also good for motivation.

What should I do about a nagging pain in my Achilles? by esac17in running

[–]esac17[S] 1 point2 points ago

I'm actually really good at self-diagnosis .. pretty much doctors hate me, but every time I have been certain of what I have, let them do their own diagnosis, and I always have been correct.

From everything I have read, I have achilles tendinopathy. And from what else I have read, the NSAID's have no effect, and the ice only marginally. There has been some really good effects from eccentric strengthening, but I am going to visit a sports medicine/PT doctor first. Here is where I got most of my information if anybody is interested: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1694

My favorite benefit of running. by meatsbeatin running

[–]esac17 10 points11 points ago*

It's called bradycardia, and isn't bad unless there are other indicative factors that something is wrong. "Resting bradycardia is often considered normal if the individual has no other symptoms such as fatigue, weakness, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, chest discomfort, palpitations or shortness of breath associated with it."

My resting heart rate is 45 as well, although I have clocked a 39 once (and only once). Been checked by several doctors and they say that everything is completely fine with my heart.

  • Funnily enough, I just checked it out of curiosity and pulled a 37. Maybe i'm a zombie.

Compression Shorts or Body Glide (like deodorant, you rub it on and it prevents friction which is what causes chaffing and blisters).
