OK, just realize it's offline viewing not editing.

You will be able to use the app available in the Chrome Store - so you can try it out on regular Chrome.

When I had one, some documents would by synced for offline viewing, you could also specify some to by synced. It was read only for documents, and maybe spreadsheets. I'm pretty sure not presentations though. It's a work in progress though - I believe they're working oin getting full client edit support.

Anyone care to help me come up with a solution to centralizing my media at home? Redundant/low-power/reasonably priced? by arcookein geek

I'm not going to be much help with your RAID question, but I got a server, put Debian on it and have Mediatomb (DLNA Server) pointed towards a directory that I have shared via AFP/Samba. This allows me to drop files in via computers where I download and rip stuff.

On each TV I just have a Blu-Ray Player, or Logitech Revue, or something that supports DLNA. Also apps on my mobile devices. Whenever I rip something, I copy it to the server and it's ready to play on a TV in moments.

This may be to simple for what you're looking for, but just figured I'd offer.

Just FYI: I've ordered a Raspberry Pi an when it comes in, I'll probably get a 3TB USB drive and duplicate the setup with the Pi acting as the server to cut down on power.

Now that April Fool's day is over, a serious discussion. In what areas does Linux have best-of-breed software available? What types of software are still lacking? by nobodysbusinessin linux

[–]eldridgea 0 points1 point ago

I was so looking forward to Lightworks, but it was supposed to come out in December, they made a post in November saying it was delayed an have posted nothing sense. Even the Windows betas that have been up forever are still betas.

EDIT: Never mind - still no word on Linux or OS X but they updated the Windows installers last week.

Google needs to take back Android from the OEMs by Tanglesomein Android

[–]eldridgea 10 points11 points ago

Except that the carries are not using Free and Open Android. The are using Google Approved Android. That's why these devices have access to the Play Store, and other cheap Chinese tablets do not. They have to enter into an agreement with Google to do this, that's how places like Motorola got the Honeycomb code before anyone else.

So they have some level of control over the manufacturers. They just need to leverage it.

My girlfriend wants to get an iPad 2 for when she goes travelling later in the year. I'm trying to convince her to go Android. Can anyone suggest some good tablets that cost less than the ipad 2 and beat it function wise? by Sagerianin Android

[–]eldridgea 0 points1 point ago

I have a Galaxy Nexus and still predominantly use my iPad for tablet uses even though I own a Motorola Xoom with ICS. I live Android on a phone, I just think the iPad is still ahead in the tablet race. Mainly because of apps, but also speed, and just overall smoothness.

I think Android may eventually equal or overtake tablets as they did on phones. Just not yet.

Apple will announce what it plans to do with all of its cash ($100 Billion) tomorrow by mph1204in apple

[–]eldridgea 0 points1 point ago

Given that the let Google buy Motorola Mobility I think they'd probably let it through. They'd have to obey all the GSM standards rules and FCC spectrum rules though - which would mean allowing Android and jailbroken iPhones on their network. I don't think they could handle that. :-)

Shuttleworth highlights server growth as Ubuntu overtakes RHEL on top websites by 30thCenturyManin linuxadmin

[–]eldridgea 0 points1 point ago

I'm not positive but perhaps they got Ubuntu with a Canonical support package.

Also the Ubuntu LTS releases are probably what are used on servers. Not as tempramental as updating every six months but probably more updated than Debian stable while also retaining most of the goodparts of Debian. A lot of Canonical's major changes have been with things like GUI, printers, etc. Not too importanr for a server.
