The local version runs but wants me to have an account, didn't see an option for any sort of local play. The web version just never seems to load running Chromium, no real indication of why.

I'm not a big fan of Java and tend to avoid apps written in it.

Don't worry about not knowing what job you want. You're still incredibly young and compsci is a huge field that is likely to look different in 5 years and unrecognizable in 20. I'm sure you've coded enough to realize that structure and flow are the most important aspects to understand. Keep challenging yourself, find projects that are interesting enough to you to keep you motivated to finish it, research and try to find the best tool for the job and use it as an excuse to learn new languages/ tricks.

Contributing to open source projects is a great way to learn. Don't short change yourself-- while diving into an OS might still be over your head, there are plenty of things that I'm sure you could contribute to. And even if you can't, seeing how other people approach a project is a great way to learn new tricks and expand how you think about structure.

No one's going to have an answer for you, most people fall into a career. Keep learning and exploring, something will grab your interest. When you get to college, talk to your professors. Don't be shy about letting them know that you like a challenge, pick their brains about the industry if they're not too embedded in academia, and try to recognize when their ideas are out-dated.

I think reddit judges you more on a subreddit-by-subreddit basis. I could be wrong, but I seem to get stuck in the spam fitler regularly in some places but never in others.

Protip: unsubscribe from the larger reddits, join /r/tldr, /r/TrueReddit, and /r/DepthHub to get the highlights. Reddit's twitter feed is also good but will fill up your feed quickly.

Aside from that, searching on keywords for topics you enjoy is a great way to find subreddits you don't know about. Also, hit that 'random' button sometimes, there's all sorts of things stashed away.

Short answer: it's security through obfuscation.

Longer answer: If reddit is unsure about your account (because you're new or have too many downvotes) then it may choose to ignore how you vote on posts. Secret totals are added to up/ downvote totals to prevent bots from know if they're working or not. Reddit can ignore the upvote or just counter it with a ninjashadow downvote.

If you're willing to pay me via paypal, I can probably set something up with my roommate as he'll still be here. I'll send you a message if no one takes it today.

Hey man-- someone asked for both of those about an hour ago. I just responded to their message about 10minutes or so ago but haven't heard back from them.

There's a chance I've totally missed them for the weekend. If I don't hear from them by 2pm, it's yours. Sound good?

I am wrong-- the lamp you linked to is the incorrect model number. Here is the correct one for $160.

That does look like the kind of bulb it uses but I'm not 100% without checking against the model number. $225 sounds steep for a new bulb, I was under the impression you could get them for $150ish.

Wrote a couple of jokes...any good? by Toberoniin StandUpComedy

[–]dylanevl 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The joke itself is alright. It's absurd and clever. The difference, from my limited experience, between telling jokes to your friends and doing stand-up is that your friends/ conversations usually provide the context that makes them funny, when you're on stage you have to set-up that context. And do it in such a way that makes the audience laugh.

Are you familiar with the "one-two-three punch"? It's basically a rule for writing stand-up that says for every set-up you need to have three jokes about it along the way. Try thinking of your jokes as small batches that fit together.

  2. The woods. I've had a rough year and need to spend some time hanging out with trees to re-orient myself.

I think it would'be been better had he used "p.s. I'm straight". People'll wonder why you're telling them that you're gay, but they'll really wonder why you'd bring up your heterosexuality.
