Flipboard & Pulse – two takes on making feeds more friendly.

Omnifocus – great for GTD.

Simplenote – synced note keeping.

Pocket Weather – this is great for Oz.

Instapaper – scrub web writing of ads and other distractions, read later.

Twitter – not a twitter fiend, may be better for high use.

Catan – the classic board game well rendered to the pad.

Distant Suns 3 – My preferred stargazing app.

Guardian Eyewitness – arresting images with commentary.

I think the White Album is weakened as a single disc. The scope of the album is a big part of its strength. Winnowing undermines this and, perhaps counterintuitively, seems to make it less cohesive.

One point often overlooked when this question arises is that they did leave a lot of songs off the white album, e.g. Not Guilty, What's the New Mary Jane, Sour Milk Sea, Junk, Child of Nature (later, with new lyrics, Jealous Guy), Step Inside Love, Circles, Oh My Love and Dig a Pony among others. They had a mountain of songs. The White Album is already a condensed version.

I can't think if I've ever heard a live version of this before (I think, possibly just live in TV studio versions). That intro took me completely by surprise. Amazing. Thanks for the post.

After scraping through maths at high school, and retaining the barest understanding of the subject, I met a maths major at university and had my head turned around. Who knew there was philosophy and beauty in maths? Not those responsible for the pedagogy or curriculum of my school maths course apparently.

And then, finally, I actually googled and found, on this site, some relevant information including this map showing land use. There is a large section in WA show to have minimal use, but less overall than you might imagine.

According to this map from here it seems to be largely crown land, mostly leased or assigned, although there are also substantial indigenous private freeholds.

Extremely sparsely? There should be a word of for low-density sparseness but I can't find it.

Yes, although Mt Isa is probably a third of the way from the coast to Alice.

There's definitely an absence of substantial settlements, and maybe there are extensive areas that are uninhabited, but the term uninhabited has terra nullius connotations for me (and it's probably just me). I'm just thinking that - between the stations, outstations, small settlements and more ephemeral camps - it's more a matter of extremely low density than absence.
