The internet must become the new watchdog of politics. The news media has failed entirely. by Antolain politics

[–]donnydonny 1 point2 points ago*

For the internet to be the watchdog, we need to liberate open government data. This is generally considered a techy, wonky issue, but open access to public government/legislative information is absolutely essential for realizing the democratizing potential of the internet. Without access to timely, bulk, machine-readable public government information, the internet can't compete with the mainstream media's inside access.

Jan. 24th: Our Best Chance to Kill SOPA by donnydonnyin politics

[–]donnydonny[S] 0 points1 point ago

SOPA and PIPA are essentially the same bill, just in different chambers. If PIPA passes the Senate, the whole House committee process on SOPA can be bypassed and PIPA can be brought straight to an up-or-down House vote. The Senate vote on Jan.24th is the only chance to win with less than a majority. After that the bar is raised.

Representative Tim Holden is coming to my library today for some bullshit photo opp. He supports SOPA. I BLANKETED the library with these. by TosTosTin SOPA

Also, if anyone else wants to do this kind of thing, here's a full list of meetings with senators this month. We're focusing on the Senate since they're voting on PIPA Jan. 24th.
