Reddit, I am a college student who is thinking about joining the Navy after I get out of school, I am going to talk to a recruiter this week. What should I ask him/her? by paul_swimmerin AskReddit

[–]dolamite125 0 points1 point ago

Your Eagle Scout ranking should allow you to start off as either an E-2 or E-3. I wouldn't recommend enlisting for longer than 4 years, regardless of the "enlistment bonuses" that they offer. The catch is that you only get half of it up front, with the rest distributed over the next six years.

Don't volunteer for anything at Boot Camp. There are several collateral duties for recruits such as leading cadence when marching, being in charge of cleaning, etc. Volunteering for them will only call attention to yourself and make your time more difficult. Blend into the background. Make it your goal to be forgetable to the RDCs.

Keep in mind that there is no guarentee where you will be assigned during your enlistment. You could be stationed on a ship based in San Diego or assigned to land duty in Bahrain (I did both).

When picking your rate (or job) make sure you choose something that will make you valuable in the civilian world. Just because your job is important on a ship, if it doesn't translate into the civilian world, it won't help you once you get out.

Has anyone ever met/spoke to anyone associated with the show? by CoMaBlaCKin howardstern

[–]dolamite125 6 points7 points ago

I was on the show with one of my friends on Aug 16 2004. I was patted down and given a waiver by Ronnie and pre-interviewed by Will. K.C. hung out with us in the green room for about 15 minutes talking with us about football. Gary came in to talk to us for a few minutes and then they brought us into the studio. We were supposed to give Howard this stupid sign that our local radio station chose us to present. Howard had me bring it over to his console and hand it to him. He ripped it up and threw it in the garbage. It was really funny and a great experience. Since I have been a daily listener forever, I wasn't nervous at all and I felt like I was having a conversation with a group of people that I knew really well. I thought everyone was very nice (with the exception of Ronnie, but being a dick is part of his job). Here is the show's recap from when I appeared (under the heading Declaration of Howard's Freedom).

MacBook Air - Student Version of Windows 7 Professional with Bootcamp? by fireworks10in AskReddit

[–]dolamite125 0 points1 point ago

It will work. You can't do an in-place upgrade from XP to Win7. Since you would need to do a fresh install anyway, the upgrade version will work just fine.

Check with the technology department at your school first. They may offer you free or almost free versions of Win7, Office 2010, etc. as part of your tuition.

Since you are dealing with an Air, I would advise against using Bootcamp and instead use Paralells. and run Win 7 in tandem with OSX. That way you don't need to set up 2 different partitions (and sacrifice disk space).

Am I meant to despise Walter White in Breaking Bad? by VoodooEconomistin television

[–]dolamite125 6 points7 points ago

Walter has done despicable, unforgivable things through the course of the show. He has rationalized all of his decisions (for his family, survival, etc.) and it is up to the audience if they want to rationalize along with him.

He has become the bad guy, which is something he has accepted, embraced, and actually strove to become. Pay attention to Walt's interactions with Hank. Notice how frustrated he is that Hank views him as a wimpy, soft man. Walter is proud of his Heisenberg persona and no longer wants to be seen as Walter White, high school chemistry teacher.

You don't have to like or sympathize with Walt to enjoy the show. Look at it as a character study of a very troubled and sometimes ruthless man.

Best night clubs/bars? by newt22in pittsburgh

[–]dolamite125 1 point2 points ago

For bars, your best bet is to go to East Carson Street in the South Side. Find somewhere to park and start bar hopping. If you want to go clubbing, Station Square has a few clubs worth checking out.

Maybe if more people would have watched it when it aired instead of "just finishing it" , it could have been renewed. Or perhaps Fox should have waited for you to get into the show three years after the fact?
