What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

Click "full size image" to the left and boom; short and nice URL. Instead of the long and horrible google images one. It also works properly with RES.

Oh I agree. But some people are a bit funky about torrenting full stop.

Toki Tori 2 is the first indie game to allow level sharing through the Steam Workshop. by Red_Infernoin Games

...from launch. (That's a key part of the title missing given Portal 2 is actually the first game to share levels via Workshop)

Xbox Controller not working on Steam by Spoggyin AskGames

[–]deanbmmv 3 points4 points ago

Have you tried other games? Specifically GFWL titles, designed for the 360 pad. I don't think TF2 is compatible with the 360 pad, hence it not working.

If you go into Control Panel - Device and Printers- Game Controllers - Xbox 360 for Windows - Properties, there should be a "Test" tab and you can check the buttons and sticks are all working.

Main thing is going to be making sure the game you're using it in is compatible with Xinput device (Which the 360 pad and, assuming Motion Joy, the PS3 pad will have been using)

It's not a title you can register with Steam(New Vegas you can).

But what you could do, if you're not so morally averse, is download an ISO of the game from a torrent site, load it into a program like DeamonTools(or burn to disc) and install the game using your own key.

Why does producing a modern-day videogame cost so much? by HelloHAL9000in truegaming

[–]deanbmmv 0 points1 point ago

Sure a subscription to MSDN, comprehensive tech support, MS Office, MS Expression Studio, MS Azure, half a dozen Windows operating systems, and Visual Basic cost quite a bit of cash. But I said "IDEs are thankfully cheap/free" not "Everything Microsoft has to offer is cheap/free". Visual Studio itself is quite a bit cheaper. Especially compared to stuff like the 3D packages. And that's if you're using Visual Studio.

As I said in the first sentence it's ISP supplied. They used to do a modem and a Netgear router, but now it's their own all-in-one type router.

I hate Strategy Games, but... by hrdcorepkin AskGames

I guess a good place to start would be: Why do you dislike strategy games? What elements of them is it that you take issue with?

Computers will set you back about $1000+ a pop. Top them up with software, and these packages can be very expensive, you're looking at around about $5000+ for one of the autodesk packages. So yes, the programs aren't exactly cheap. Most of the time the average consumer makes a software purchase it's stuff like Office for $100. IDEs are thankfully cheap/free, so that's nice. Though the SDKs for games the licensing can be pretty hefty. For example UDK is $2,500/seat (it's free with some limits for folks to use on a personal basis mind).

Then you've got the employees to hire and salaries to pay. These will most likely be your most expensive part since it's skilled work, not really a minimum wage kind of job. And each employee will be needing a PC and software to go with it. Then duplicate this by 1 to 3 years. And you'll need offices for these employees to work in too and all the fun costs that come with that.

Then you've got marketing which can vary wildly in price depending on what you're wanting to do. Posting to a place like reddit is free, but getting a big full page spread on a site like RPS I doubt comes cheap.

And then distribution, which thankfully kinda pays for itself if you're going digital release (As I feel most kickstarters will be)

I never once said I wanted it connected wirelessly, as I stated my Wi-fi is on the blink otherwise I'd obviously be using that. I wanted it tethered, i.e via USB cable.

What is so special about Fallout:New Vegas? by coligulousin AskGames

[–]deanbmmv 5 points6 points ago

A large part folks like is the factions. FO3 is fairly linear, you're going to end up with pretty much the same story on each playthrough. But with New Vegas who you side with will change what story you get each time.

I guess it's possible you may have burnt out on the fallout universe with playing a lot of FO3. I didn't get much chance (damn GFWL).

Do you know any good websites dedicated to strategy games? by vegardin truegaming

[–]deanbmmv 1 point2 points ago

Seems like it's a niche within a niche. If you do get started up, do share. I've a passing interest in strategy games. Though mainly Civ-types (playing Warlord Master of the Arcane atm for review), as opposed to Starcraft n co (I do enjoy DoW though). I'm sure it could find an audience if you were to start up again.

btw this might be the kinda thing good for /r/AskGames.

EA to take no revenue for the first 90 days of sale from crowd funded games! by ULTRA_Leninin Games

Nah, I think it's the same with a large chunk of downvoted items in /new; It was on the frontpage the other day. So certainly nothing to do with "let's downvote the positive EA story".

Looking for a game, preferably FPS, that upgrades have to be purchased with in game currency earned through a "pay for performance" style reward system. Any help? (PC) by SquidJigginin Games

[–]deanbmmv 1 point2 points ago

Bulletstorm? You do "skillshots" that get you points, e.g a standard kill is like 10 points, a headshot 20, a kill by shooting them off a cliff is 50. Then you come across dropkits where you can use these points with which to buy bullets and upgrade your weaponry.

I'm moving out in about a month so I'm not really wanting to be buying stuff for this. At the moment it's more of an annoyance than something that needs quickly fixing.
