Pics of Books from Thriftbook (as promised) by deadseasquirrelsin books

[–]deadseasquirrels[S] -1 points0 points ago

I said I would send you guys an update of the condition of the books that I got from Thriftbooks so here it goes. All these books were considered to be in good or very good condition. All in all I would say I'm happy with these books and I've already purchased another round of books from thriftbooks (4 more books, 3 of which were hard cover, for sub $20)

I honestly think it would be better if the bed was lofted on top of the hardware and bathroom and make the bottom a sort of living space. It lacks a bit of warmth and maybe with the looming bedroom it'll close the space up top to give it a more claustrophobic (in a good way) feeling.

I can totally understand wanting to know the real, physical explanation of why something is happening or what such and such sound was. For some reason it didn't bother me this time to not have an answer and to just see everything as a parable.

I think I can accept that when the author has shown that he is capable of putting deeper meaning into something, and when I can see what the author is attempting. Otherwise I'd just feel like he was stumbling around and expecting you to project meaning onto some rambling junk he created. I seriously didn't feel like Danielewski did the latter - I had my doubts about 100 or so pages into it, but there were enough places that were concrete and kept in the regular story paradigm that kept me going through the parts that were like a spilled cup of letters.

Without sounding like some Yale MFA, head up my own butt, literary intelligentsia, I think there's a difference between what happened and the point.

I never got the impression that Spoiler in dispute. In fact I think that's a really cheap cop out that is employed by too many people who weave complex stories with confusing and disparate concepts and realities. I remember Possible spoiler detail would have chosen that as an explanation - it's fundamentally an unequal investment in imagination on the part of the writer and the reader.

That being said I think the point of the book is arguably what Danielewski said himself, that it's a love story. When I read that at first I thought he was just being sentimental. But having finished it, I would agree. I think it is ultimately about the tumbles of love and conflict with other people, and ultimately yourself. Why else Spoiler such a critical element of the ending. I think it's about figuring a way "out" of some dark places in yourself, and hopefully landing on terra firma.

Little solace comes to those who grieve when thoughts keep drifting as walls keep shifting and this great blue world of ours seems a house of leaves Moments before the wind.

Personal hatred of this by Markren_92in tattoo

Inauthenticity or shallowness (If you prescribe to the thought that there is a difference between shallow behavior/thought and deep behavior/thought, I think somebody getting a tattoo in that fashion would fall into the former), irks everybody. I'm not saying you lose even a second of sleep over it, but I've never met anybody who praises shallowness - my point it's seen as a universal affliction.

Whether you think this girl's interest is shallow is another thing. But it seems shallow to me. Do I care, not really - the more crappy tattoos out there the more mine look interesting. I wouldn't tell anybody to stop though, I wouldn't tell them to go for it either. Honestly I probably just wouldn't have conversations would a person like that (or at least not a conversation about tattoos).

TLDR: OP isn't crazy, and does not have a stick up his/her butt because shallowness is real and annoying - but who cares

I had a friend who knew you through a distant web of friendship, and she told me a story about how you acted like you were in a wheelchair once when you introduced yourself to people, where then these friends would push you over while you cried and pleaded for help. Is this story true, and can you fill in the details.

I would imagine if anyone writes quite a bit...it's you guys. Can you please recommend a great keyboard (preferably less than $150) by redditluvin writing

What makes this keyboard so good? Am I missing something, I always thought all (most) keyboards functioned/felt the same.

Has anybody ever purchased from Thriftbooks? by deadseasquirrelsin books

[–]deadseasquirrels[S] 0 points1 point ago

Cool thanks. I just placed an order on thriftbooks, and all the selections that I made were for either very good, or like new. Thriftbooks was also free shipping for all domestic orders, so not having to worry about that makes a big difference. Some places I've seen charged up to $5 for shipping - which I think is reasonable even.

I have no idea how a place like thriftbook makes money. I paid on average, $4.50 for each book and half of them were hard covers. Since I'm finding my hard covers of choice for <$5 I figured why not pay an extra $2 or $3 to get something that's a little hardier.

Maybe after I get the books I'll take a pic for others to see as well.

This is pretty inaccurate, but still funny.

My friend was just sentenced to 7 years prison for "agrivated driving under the influence." She crashed into a car, resulting in a chain reaction that killed 2 motorcyclists. While not using marijuana at the time, she had traces of it in her system. I need your help, Reddit. by waskonatorin trees

[–]deadseasquirrels 3 points4 points ago

Well I think the actual number of years is just details, I didn't really expect a literal answer on how many years her sentence should be, though 7 years doesn't seem outrageous to me (nor does 8 years for the acquaintance of yours). I would say, personally, less than a year for killing 2 people is definitely more outrageous than the 7 years.

And I realize that this was an accident in that it was not intentional. But intent is not the only thing being considered here. This was not after all having your brakes lock up or hitting a patch of ice. This girl made a bad judgement call, one which many people know is unsafe (hence our laws against drunk driving, even if no accident occurs) - just the act of drunk driving is a crime, for precisely this reason, because you are putting people at risk (grave danger) by willingly being irresponsible.

I don't want to harp on this much more than I already have, but one last point I wanted to make is that you are right and wrong when you say "this was something that could happen to anyone." This could happen to anyone who drives drunk (or "under the influence"), this doesn't happen to just anyone - because if this happened to somebody who obeyed all the rules and used their best judgement, I think the sentence would be much different.

I don't think getting 7 years for killing 2 people (not entirely by accident) is egregious...and if it were egregious it would be because the sentence was too short. This sounds like an awful situation, don't get me wrong, but your friend killed 2 people, how much time should she serve?

Since I don't have a TV, I've only really watched the show on flights and on my computer on occasion and I guess I never came across that.

Ha I can see how that was confusing. I meant this CannabisExtracts subreddit and movement. I didn't know there were so many different kinds of extracts and ways to use marijuana. That's all.
