I can see from their uniform that they are a female national Russian curling team.I believe the woman in question was struck by a particularly fearsome babushka bomb.

Though I am a guy I have a similar bathroom stall problem at work. The odd sounds and smells do not bother me in the least, my particular neurosis is that the guy in the next stall is a coworker from my group or one of my bosses/superiors (identified by their shoes and pants). If I can see their shoes they can see mine! This would not be such a problem except for the fact that I wipe standing up (wiping whilst sitting is sub-optimal as genitals have to be moved out of the way in a frontal approach to the target area and an unacceptable risk of a an inadvertent water landing if attacking from the rear). Standing up to wipe totally gives away my identity via the aforementioned shoes and pants. So I shit as loud as please, but with feet front and center so as to avoid recognition and lie in wait like cobra waiting for solitude. Then I stand up, wipe flush and leave.

Just to underscore this weirdness, the urinal 'culture' in our workplace is very lax. I have no problem carrying conversations with the user of the urinal directly adjacent to mine, though I am rarely the one to initiate the conversation.

Captchas are hard.. by Kon-chezzin WTF

[–]databank01 1 point2 points ago

The way ReCaptchas work is by giving you two words scanned from old books. One word ReCaptcha is sure about "tricisi" in this case, by Optical Character Recognition or other humans as a check that you are not some robot or just banging your fingers on the keyboard. "Tricisi" is intentionally distorted if you notice, this is done so someone trying to circumvent ReCaptcha by using OCR will not be able to. The second word the computer does not know and uses you and other humans to build up confidence in, if you type in "Bob" and a load of other people type "Bob" then the system will be reasonably sure that the second word is "Bob"

Old ass train, today. by CurLyyin nyc

The MTA makes up a train from old car a couple of times a year usually for some sort of special event or time of year (last I heard they did it for the Yankees playoffs) , they have been doing it for years.

Mayor Bloomberg says he "would cut the number of teachers in half" in NYC Public Schools if he could. by Lawsuitupin news

[–]databank01 0 points1 point ago

How about increasing the class size/teacher pay by 20% and cutting the bottom 20% of the teachers? Sure Bloomberg overreached with 50% but it does not seem outlandish that there is a percentage (maybe even less than 20%) at which this approach makes sense.

The Black Keys on "Selling Out" by nottylerolsonin Music

[–]databank01 0 points1 point ago

First of all that was a thoroughly enjoyable comment to read. The first thought that popped into my head is that your examples of compromising on ones morals are self-assessed , does that mean that only the artist can decide if they sold out or that two different people may asses an artist to be a "sell out" or not based on the people's own internal compass.

I am to understand that you consider a musician not living and acting true to his/her morals and values to be worse than a musician who does not make the music they want to make due to outside influence. As a disinterested party I would totally agree (not not just about musicians). However if I like an artist's work, I mean really enjoy it then I care more about their creative output rather than the integrity of their character. I know that this is not a good sentiment to have, but artists do often sacrifice themselves to their creations. Ultimately humans listen to music because it makes our brains feel good and even though musicians get some amount of brownie points for being "good guys" this would not extrapolate to a single of Mr. Rogers hitting two rocks together being a world wide sensation.

You're not your job. You're not how much money you have in the bank. You're not the car you drive and you're not your... Japanese Brad Pitt comerical. Musicians are not ascetic monks, they live in houses and raise kids and need to earn money. Sure everybody has their morals but unless the musician in question is licensing their song for a baby seal clubbing commercial when the core of their public persona is about preventing cruelty to animals I don't see any moral pitfalls. Other endorsements may stand against a musicians preference but not a belief, should Pomplemoose be chastised for doing a Hyundai Commercial when they might prefer to drive Fords or Hondas instead? Would you quit a job in an office if the printer paper was not sustainability harvested or taking the Black Keys example buy mayonnaise if it was made with battery cage eggs? I don't understand the general argument that musicians should be held to a higher standard of moral absolutism than the general populace e the

Thought I jest, it is perfectly valid and even desirable for one movie to elaborate on an idea/concept of a predecessor to make it something better and different.

The poem that Goldblum refers to:

GLORY be to God for dappled things—
For skies of couple-colour as a brinded cow
For rose-moles all in stipple upon trout that swim;
Fresh-firecoal chestnut-falls; finches’ wings Landscape plotted and pieced—fold, fallow, and plough And áll trádes, their gear and tackle and trim.

All things counter, original, spare, strange
Whatever is fickle, freckled (who knows how?) With swift, slow sweet, sour; adazzle, dim
He fathers-forth whose beauty is past change:
Praise him.

Even if you do not like it, when has a late night talk show guest brought up a poem?

I am sorry if I have offended you. Bread was very important when I was growing up. Standing in a line for bread at a kiosk for an hour or so and to know that that bread pretty much the only thing that I will have to eat that day I could not imagine the bounty of America. Lucky as I am now to be in this great country the one thing was a bit of a shock was the bread. I assure you that white bread can be made and sold at a rather low price (about $1.50 a loaf) that one does not puncture and stab when making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or is fluffy like cotton balls.
