How fast or how high would an object need to go for the Coriolis Effect to not be prevalent? by turbodreamer08in askscience

[–]dashdanw 0 points1 point ago

thats because it affect the trajectory and not the actual spin of the bullet. The trajectory of a bullet tends to be very large.

Also the Coriolis effect only influences very large systems (like hurricanes). I'm not positive but I believe that something like the SpaceX rocket isnt even large enough to be affected by it.

Can astronauts knock a spacecraft off course my moving around inside it? by T-RexInAnF-14in askscience

[–]dashdanw 1 point2 points ago

You cannot change your trajectory, you would need to displace the mass from inside the capsule. You can however, affect the pitch, yaw etc to some degree but the mass of the capsule proportional to the mass of the astronauts is very high so it affects it only very slightly.

Is it possible to run on water? by Jellephantin askscience

[–]dashdanw 0 points1 point ago

There was a "documentary" about people who designed shoes that were used for this purpose, however it was later revealed to be a fake. Other than that there have been no solid reports of people being able to walk on water (at least that I have heard).

I just noticed the Pi symbol in the bottom right of every Reddit page, what are some other cool Reddit Easter eggs? by stucknmovein AskReddit

[–]dashdanw 5 points6 points ago

If you type in an address after the reddit url, ie. http://www.reddit.com/www.google.com you will see the page in a "reddit browser" type thing that will allow you to see comments for the page etc.

I think this guy seriously misunderstands one of the fundamental advantages of linux....that it sucks! If it rocked and everyone used it it would become less programmer oriented and more dumbed down. If everyone used it it would become a huge target for viruses as well. I'm glad everyone isn't using Ubuntu because even though it worked well, the only thing it was reliable for was checking email.

Ambiguous overloaded java methods with generics and varargs - Stack Overflow by vivinpin java

[–]dashdanw -11 points-10 points ago

because the word "method" is reserved in java, just like how you cant make a variable called string, but you could make a variable called string2.

If you have file(s) selected, shift+del (the del on the numpad) deletes the files immediately without moving it into the trashcan.

Straight guys: Would you be "comfortable" with a gay roommate? by mossner1992in AskReddit

I live with 3 girls and a gay guy and honestly he is the nicest and easiest for me to get along with of the bunch. It has never really been a stigma for me though.
