Rookie Mistakes: What are/were some of yours? by closernoughin bjj

[–]dalieu 1 point2 points ago

Maybe it depends on your school. When I was white, I always grabbed someone who knew more than me after class to either ask questions or roll. Sure the higher belts stick together, they have been training together for a long time. Since I don't attend the beginner's class anymore, I can honestly say that I don't know more than half of the white belts at my school right now, but I know all the blues+. However, no one makes answering a lower belt's question unwelcomed. If anything it would give me a chance to know a white belt that I didn't know before.

I am doing something wrong and no one is telling me. It is really really annoying.

Just grab your instructor or higher belt and ask what you are doing wrong. There are some things I didn't get until I had to specifically ask someone about it. Seek improvement by seeking knowledge.

Where I train, some people do that so that other people can know their name, but most students don't, so whatever floats your boat. Btw, you should have created your own post asking this instead of posting it here.

So....what happened to Estima vs. Diaz? by chessboxerin bjj

Have you seen this video interview? It seems like Nick already made weight but Braulio wanted him to weight in before the fight again, however Nick already started eating and rehydrating so he wouldn't be able to make the 180 weight again. So then it would look like Braulio made weight and Nick didn't. Really I think Nick got screwed in this.

I feel like Braulio is just trying to play the good guy because Nick has a hard time expressing himself. Braulio should have made weight the first time and shouldn't have ask Nick to weight in a second time. I'm also starting to think that Braulio never cared to make weight because he assumed that Nick would have fought no matter what because it was for charity. I mean come on, initially weighing in 189 lbs for a fight that was 180 lbs??

I would also think that the organization running the expo would do almost anything it takes, including lying or changing the agreed weight, to make the match happen because the BJJ world's eyes were on this match and expo. All the hype was around this main event. A lot of people (there in person and at home through streaming) wanted their money back after the expo.

The World Jiu Jitsu Expo was not a good experience, probably would not go to another for a very long time. by dalieuin bjj

I agree with you. We got there around 11am and ran out of things to do by 2pm. We almost checked out the comic-con next door since we also paid $10 for parking and drove 2 hours to get there.

The other fights were good, but we were left without a main event.

I agree with this. It was cool that we took pictures with Renzo Gracie, Andre Galvao, and etc.

According to the WJJE website, you are correct. I don't know what happened, and didn't even realize the match up changed until you pointed it out.

What Braulio said... Braulio should have made weight the first time around and Nick should have showed up anyways.

The first hints of potential controversy came when Estima weighed in at 189 pounds on Friday for a bout that was supposed to be 180. Both camps agreed the fight would continue if Estima weighed in at 185 on Saturday morning, which he did.

That's BS, if Braulio didn't make weight when he was supposed to then he's the only one who should have to weight in, Nick already made his weight. Whatever... I was there and overall the expo was pretty disappointing. It was not very well organized.

I only paid $15 online, but I was pretty disappointed with the organization of the whole thing.

Got my first Gi. What do I do? by [deleted]in bjj

I would wash it before rolling, but I don't think it matters too much since it's a white gi. Other than that, go to class and have fun. ;)

I also have a rack in the garage that I use to hang dirty and clean gis. Works great and glad that I don't have to spend money on electricity to dry the gis. ;)

The only time I went to a chiro was when I got a groupon for an 1 hr massage that included a chiro adjustment. I also posted my experience here. For me, massages > spinal adjustments.

What's your budget? I think $80 for a brand new Fuji is pretty reasonable.
