"Mitt Romney’s prep school classmates recall pranks, but also troubling incidents." by reddit4in politics

[–]daechi 27 points28 points ago

Sociopaths have NO conscience, though they know the difference between right and wrong. So they don't experience remorse or a sense of guilt. Usually they even have great difficulty owning their actions. In other words, they often can't even bring themselves to say, "Yes, I did this" if it's something society disapprove of. Another key characteristic of sociopaths is callousness and lack of empathy, so genuine sadness for others is something they aren't capable of. Many sociopaths are quite good actors. They know how to pretend to show sympathy and so on. Sometimes they give themselves away by displaying exaggerated or even melodramatic sympathy that doesn't ring true. Always look out for uncalled for drama. As for 'feeling bad for themselves', it usually takes the form of aggressive self-pity. As they can't accept responsibility for their own actions, they blame their misfortunes on others. The end of the for-profit prison era? A nationwide campaign to stem investments in private corrections companies is gathering steam by davidreiss666in politics

[–]daechi 6 points7 points ago

2007: Black males continue to be incarcerated at an extraordinary rate. Black males make up 35.4 percent of the jail and prison population — even though they make up less than 10 percent of the overall U.S population. Four percent of U.S. black males were in jail or prison last year, compared to 1.7 percent of Hispanic males and .7 percent of white males. In other words, black males were locked up at almost six times the rate of their white counterparts.

All religious people are ignorant. Listen to yourself and how hateful your words sound. That is religion making you divisive instead of communicating reasonably. Please reread what you wrote and understand how religion is making you ignorant. Charity is a human trait not a superstitious one.

There are a lot of ignorant people in America who still believe the bible is real. So religious leaders and politicians keep the debate about abortions and praying in school, so they can keep the corporations and military industrial complex and the prison systems and the drug enforcement agencies rolling in cash.

Until, more Americans realize the bible is a fairy tale like Santa Claus and the tooth fairy the politicians here will continue to use smokescreen tactics with the media to keep the arguing and the debate about these cultural issues rather than getting money out of politics. It's sad really, grown folks believing in a boat that housed two of every animal in the world, a woman who turned into a pillar of salt, a man who turned wine into blood. Just writing this makes me realize how ignorant so many people are in this world and how they continue to stifle our progress. If people continue to base their values on superstitions and symbols rather than empirical reality than there will always be an ignorant point in the dialogue.

Obama worse than Bush on medical marijuana, says Rolling Stone by icaasoin politics

[–]daechi -1 points0 points ago

Yeah, it pisses me off to no end too.

I hate to say it but a lot of the ignorance in America and the reasons sensible things don't happen is because religious leaders control the minds of a lot of ignorant adults who still believe in fairy tales. You can't reason with people who look for their values in superstitions and symbols as oppose to what is empirically happening in reality.

Politics is compromise, and it's necessary. Obama has to choose which domestic cultural issues to give in on to garner support from the independent conservatives. Drugs are easy to demonize from decades of propaganda. He has no wiggle room on cultural issues like abortion because he would immediately lose his base. People still associate pot with harder drugs like coke and heroine because the msm treats it as such. To many older people it's still a gateway drug. Obama knows it's wrong but for now, he has to give ground on some issues or possibly alienate a large portion of the middle right.

Plus, there is so much money involved with drugs from enforcement to prisons to foreign policies that any politician will feel incredible pressure from lobbyists and institutions to keep the money moving.

I have no problem voting for a real progressive tax where billionaires pay a rate of around 75 - 85%.

Also, these lawyers are scum.

We have all dealt with crazy girls but this one tops them all! This is after 1 date by rmcoop27in funny

Right. I agree with you.

I think many young people should know that sex is powerful and has many repercussions besides just the act of it. I'm not religious or conservative but have never been interested in one night stands even when they present themselves. Personally, I don't feel like sex is enjoyable unless I know the person and they also feel comfortable with me. And you are right, both parties have gotten themselves involved with someone they do not know.

I also think it kind of sucks for young people to feel this pressure that they should be cool or lax about sex and any passionate behavior is deemed "crazy" or abnormal. If they had just gone out to see a movie and she acted this way, I would be like she needs to see a therapist, but they just had sex. I think they should have both taken more time to know each other, but just from their "texting" behavior, I find his actions more disturbing. He doesn't have the maturity to understand or sympathize with what this sensitive woman might be going through. He just thinks her behavior is crazy based on what? A couple of texts that would equal a short letter.

Sex is powerful. It is the main drive in life and dictates most of our thoughts, motives, and behavior. It can be amazing or very scary.

Really? When I read this I felt like he was being rude to her especially if they just had sex. I mean by today's "normal" standards she did go overboard but they just had sex. He should understand that some women feel attached after such intimacy. If he doesn't get that, he should either choose who he "fucks" more selectively or wait to know more intimately the women he has sex with.

Young Santorum was Pro-Choice by daechiin politics

[–]daechi[S] 1 point2 points ago*

I think the point of the article was that Santorum was figuring out what it meant to him politically before how it mattered to him in principle.

The gist of him figuring out his stance on abortion is below your quote. But fundamentally I agree with you, Huff is getting worse and worse with their sensational headlines. Which is a shame because some of the articles have good points if not written well. I think their headlines will eventually cost them their core readership.

Here's the part:

"A former aide to Walgren, meanwhile, said that when the campaign began researching Santorum, they identified him as a "pro-choice Republican."

"What he soon discovered was that he wasn't going to defeat a pro-choice Democrat unless he adopted a different position," the aide said. "By the election, he was an ardent pro-lifer and was making that one of his issues.""
