Have you tried it at home? I became single about a year ago and started using full size towels (or bath sheets even) instead of paper towels.

Since, I have gone through three paper towel rolls in a year.

TIL that Voyager 1 is close to entering inter-stellar space, exiting the field of the sun's effects and showing us what space is really like outside our solar system. by YettiRockerin todayilearned

[–]cynoclast 43 points44 points ago

Except that they keep moving the "edge". IIRC, they consider the termination shock to be the edge. But they're not real sure where it is. The joke goes, "Where is the edge of the solar system? Just ahead of Voyager 1."

See, Wikipedia (at the moment) says it's at 75-90 AU. Submission says 113-119 AU! Also keep in mind, astronomers consider being off by an order of magnitude or two to be acceptable (and this is reasonable).

So it's somewhere between 11,219,850,000km and 17,802,162,000km from the sun. Bear in mind that: Jupiter is 142,984km in diameter, and Asimov has described the solar system as "Jupiter plus debris". To try (and fail) and put it all into a scale the human mind can grasp without math, you can fit 46,035.3 Jupiters adjacent to each other in the space we think the edge of the solar system is.

Hell, I'm not even convinced there is one as we haven't reached it yet. In my mind it could very well be like trying to find the edge of the Earth. You'd think we would learn. It'll be news when voyager actually hits something.

tl;dr: We don't have a clue where the edge of the solar system is.

I think it's because the animals are often incapable of understanding what happens to them, and we are powerless to explain.

Monks... Have you tried stacking IAS yet? by Zaeronin Diablo

[–]cynoclast 0 points1 point ago

I thought the skill was 25% not 50%?

I just can't stand how slow they are. Fast attacks mean faster spirit regen. And 3-4 attacks per second is possible. +25% passive is no comparison.

Additionally, if you usually dual wield, and decide you want to use a shield for a tough bit, you only lose a little DPS dropping your secondary weapon for a shield. You'd need a whole different setup for 2h -> 1h+S.

I did use a 2h diabo for a while because it was so much better I couldn't not. But I hated it. The monk isn't fun to me if he is slow.

It's a great way to get 90+ resist to one resist on an item. Honestly I wouldn't gear a monk any different in terms of resists, he just gets more benefit from them.

I wouldn't want to find myself finding an item too good not to use, but that forces me to give up some item(s) that are responsible for the bulk of my single-resist stack.

If you try for allres on everything, you have a way more robust gear setup.

Nobody who loses a hardcore character is a victim.

Blizzard has again gone out of their way to make damn sure you know what a hardcore character really means. Moreover, that you can, and probably will lose it. Especially given how brutal even nightmare can be. Between this, and the fact that it's a game. I have zero sympathy. In fact, I rather enjoy it when people fail to properly think through the consequences of their actions and suffer for it in a game. It teaches a little personal responsibility that might hopefully extend to real life and make them a better person.

In fact in EVE, I was usually trying to this very thing to someone most of the time, and I was quite good at it. I don't know if you're familiar, but in EVE you can lose skillpoints (think experience that takes up to 60 real world days to train to level V, and takes literally years (approaching decades) to train a character in general.) And there is no softcore version to EVE whatsoever. No matter who, where, or what ship, the chance to lose it after undock is not a non-zero chance. Having suicide ganked several suckers for billions in profit right in the games largest trade hub in a very "safe and secure" system (CCP will tell you highsec is safeer, not safe), I'm living proof. It's why the Golden Rule of EVE is literally, "Don't fly anything you can't afford to lose." Corollary: Because you will lose it.

This isn't like blaming a rape victim in any way whatsoever. Because you can literally choose to reduce the chances of this happening to absolute zero by simply not playing hardcore. This is not possible in most cases where a person could be a victim. I completely share Blizzards's entirely unsympathetic attitude towards hardcore death.

I played HC briefly in D2. I got my taste, and learned my lesson. Sure, I was livid when I died, but I expected no sympathy, blamed no one but myself, and just went back to softcore where I had years of fun.

I played EVE for over 5 years. I've had ship and implant losses (High grade talisman set, bitches!) worth $50-100 real world dollars. Some have lost individual ships clocking in at 15,000 USD (You can sell game time codes to players for in-game money, so the conversion rate is actually pretty well established).

I hope they make ganking possible. It was always fun to gank someone who was being an asshole, cheating, or not contributing in a public game.

Way more satisfying than kicking them.

Best is to stack items that have all res and a single res and try to get all the same res if you know you'll be using OWE

They voted themselves the money and prosperity of the 99.9% back in 1918. It just took this long for their plan to come to fruition. What they weren't expecting is the internet to level the information warfare playing field such that an individual has almost as much power as them. They don't like that, so CISPA was born after SOPA and PIPA failed.

What's the DPS on your 2H?

I always found them way too slow for my tastes. And my passives are all spoken for. +Spirit regen from mantras, OWE, and life per spirit spent. If I get enough gear that gives life per spirit spent I might switch the last one. I hate not having some kind of passive spirit regen. There lots of parts of the game where you're just running from fight to fight. Having full spirit when you arrive is very helpful.

One With Everything makes your all your resists = your highest resist.

I don't know if there are any monks that don't use it.
