TROPHY CASE

Last post about the meetup today! I swear. by VeritFNin PennStateUniversity

Goddamnit. My friend just told me he went to a Reddit meetup today. Looked here and found it. See you at the next one, I guess?

Could you help me pronounce "Asya", and spell its translation into Cyrillic? by creativeembassyin russia

THANK YOU! She's only told me her actual name about 3 times. Listening to it over and over again will help!

I have been practicing this for a WEEK. Thanks for your tips, I think there are just some sounds in Russian that I need to continue practicing. I tried saying her actual name a few days ago, and didn't get it right. :-p

Still practicing...

I asked her, and it's not a diminutive form. But thanks for the appropriate spelling.

The cover for Reggie Watt's new album is amazing. by LaughspinJGin StandUpComedy

[–]creativeembassy 5 points6 points ago

I don't understand the hate towards this coming from a blog. The OP is clearly excited from both a comedy standpoint and a design standpoint. And I am too; this album cover is fantastic, and this is the first time I've seen it.

This is /r/standupcomedy... everybody chill! :-)

What would it take to get a giant LAN party started? For such a large campus, it seems silly that there wouldn't be one. by James_Keenanin PennStateUniversity

[–]creativeembassy 0 points1 point ago

I, along with a few other hackers, are now running the hackerspace downtown. (It's underneath the Frasier st. garage.) I'm thinking about doing a LAN party once every two months or so.

We'll mostly play free/cheap PC games, especially ones that work better in person. Like Team Fortress 2 or Magicka. Artemis Spaceship Bridge Simulator is also really fun, and it looks nerdy (and it is), but it works really well when you have enough people for an entire "bridge". (We also have two separate rooms for two different bridges that could compete against each other.)

I'd like to know if you have other free/cheap games that would work well. Before we fill the rest of the time with more expensive games, like SC2 or MW3 or BF3.

(Also, probably no minecraft?)

GTA4. It's... interesting.

Last night, a man screamed "I hope you get raped" at me because he thought I didn't pick up dog poop in my own front yard. What's the most wildly inappropriate thing a stranger has ever yelled at you reddit? by drunkdetectivein AskReddit

[–]creativeembassy 1 point2 points ago

Around 10 at night, I was putting up road signs for a charity dinner the next day. I put one up next to some bushes, and there was a Taco Bell on the other side. A person going through the drive-thru rolled down their window and started yelling at me,

"What are you doing?"

"I just put up a road sign for this chari-"

"I know you were peeing in the bushes, don't lie to me."

"Ma'am, you'll see the sign when you drive by."

"DON'T LIE TO ME! I'm calling the cops RIGHT NOW."

"...then go ahead! I wasn't urinating in public, so I don't have anything to worry about."

"DON'T TALK BACK TO ME! THEY'RE GOING TO THROW YOUR ASS IN PRISON!"

Meanwhile, the poor drive-thru operator is just holding onto this bag of tacos waiting for the banshee to shut up and take her food...

I actually sortof liked that in DX3, the first time I received a rocket launcher... I didn't have a good place to use it. Blew a few enemies out from cover, but no mechs to use it on. That actually surprised me... and made the game feel a lot more realistic.

Possibly the most helpful video I've seen... by info_squidin edmproduction

Somewhere I saw a production video about Phonat. He had some terrific tips for chopping up vocals. I'll try to find it again...

As a gay guy, I'm well aware that there are plenty of advantages to being straight. But, could you guys tell me what you imagine the advantages of being gay might be? by zorkempirein AskReddit

[–]creativeembassy 0 points1 point ago

You get to go out and just dance. If I go to a night club to just dance, people look at me weird. I mean, I'm trying to enjoy myself and maybe meet a nice girl. But if I'm not grinding strangers' asses, I'm the weird one?

I'd like to be gay for one night. Meet lots of women, no pressure. Then the next night go straight again, and say, "Guess what? You can date me now!"

Penn State, thanks for showing me a great time this weekend! by spezin PennStateUniversity

Me working with FM synthesis by hoddapin WeAreTheMusicMakers

Good tip.

Me working with FM synthesis by hoddapin WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]creativeembassy 2 points3 points ago

Thanks for this! I thought I "got" FM synthesis, but I've been playing around and not finding useful sounds. But when he said that the SLOPE of the modulating wave affects the other operator, NOT the Y position, that blew my mind. I can't wait to take my newfound knowledge back home and play with FM some more.

What song would you recommend to someone who's NEVER heard any EDM before? by creativeembassyin electrohouse

Haven't heard of Somethingalamode. That song is great, she might like that if she likes strings.

That might be the first actual electro house song I play for her. That or Greyhound.

Haha, this is awesome! I'll consider it, I didn't even think about Enya.

I'm out in Central Pennsylvania, USA. She's originally from down south somewhere, I think North Carolina? She's doing some grad work at Penn State.

Catgroove is another great suggestion. Again, I'm not trying to push her into Electro House head first. Just get her introduced to some crossover EDM genres like Electro Swing, and lead her gently. :-)

One of my favorite songs of all time. I'm afraid of anything too repetitious though; that turns a lot of people off of EDM.

Just thought about Electro Swing. If she likes swing music, maybe she'll dig Caravan Palace - Clash? And we can move into synthier music from there.

Those are great suggestions. Lots of people who "don't like techno" love Daft Punk.
