It has been out for months. They even have a cheaper plastic version of it now (the TF300).

My 2 cents: Android is in dire need of a standardized connector/protocols like the iPhone and iPod have. by SgtBaxterin Android

They should let the standards compete in the marketplace until the best is chosen. Who says the standard should even involve wires?

Yeah, it would have been nice if they had stuck to the standard..

There are certain genetic disorders that are advantageous in certain situations- like the gene that causes sickle-cell anemia also help guard against malaria. You might judge a certain gene bad and end up with a population with no immunity to a bad flu. How would you competently judge "bad" genes?

The only handset manufacturer that has followed a standard is Apple.

What good is a standard that only Apple can use? Are you suggesting each company have their own proprietary standard? That was the problem before, and they solved that with open standards.

I kept buying iPods because of the accessories I had that I knew would work with them.

This is a perfect example of buyer lock in- and that is a problem. MHL is an open standard, smaller than Apple's 30 pin dock, and has power, audio, and video.

Apple was using the 30pin connector YEARS before Micro USB became the "standard".

USB has been a standard before the iPod was even thought of. Apple decided to make its own new PROPRIETARY standard (evolving standard- they have changed the pin layout many times) ignoring interoperability. In case you didn't know, proprietary means that they don't let others use it. It may be a good thing for Apple, but it is bad for the rest of the tech industry (like many of Sony's "standards").

The 30 pin connector is the connector that should have become the standard.

Apple will not allow that- that is kind of the problem.

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

Long story short, small cars have similar problems. Prius's don't make a damn noise and are a hazard to pedestrians and cyclists because people can't hear them coming. That's why there are aftermarket products to have cars emit noise. It is a common problem that is gaining attention.

Completely different situation. This is at low speeds, and the sounds being made would not be audible inside someone's house. Most notable: they project sound forward, thus actually working at its intended purpose.

No doubt there are bad drivers, but loud pipes are not going to get their attention (as many studies a quick google search away have shown). Having headlights flash or a loud horn would actually save lives, but then they couldn't annoy people while acting cool.

This happens to people in small cars as well, but you don't see them cutting off their muffler to attract attention. Why loud pipes and not a siren or (better yet) flashing lights?

"Loud pipes save lives" is BS. I can't hear a motorcycle until they pass me on a highway, so obviously it is not working. Blinking lights and a siren would work better, but they would make you look like the tool that you are. I used to live right next to a busy road, and there is no reason why your tiny vehicle needs to make more noise than an 18-wheeler.
