Is this normal performance for Premiere CS5.5? by mr0be00in editors

[–]coppersink 0 points1 point ago

Well, I guess it comes down to what is acceptable. 'No lag at all' is clearly not correct and indeed it would entirely depend on your hardware.

I think however that having the option to not have to transcode and for it to still be pretty solid and usable is a great leap forward over the alternative - and of course you can still transcode if you want.

Sure, DLC and other schemes are finding new ways of squeezing pennies from customers, but game-halting adverts? That's the real way to piss off your customer-base.

reference to w40k perhaps?

Most likely not.

The film came out in 2000. The Tau were not introduced to 40k until 2001.

"That was taken out of context... but yes, that's exactly what we think should happen."

[–]coppersink 4 points5 points ago

Yup, as chugachh3dguy says it's normal.

As you mention in the footage the H264 video is usable - whereas before CS5 and CUDA it would not have been at all.

The thing of course is that you can edit these, at high quality, directly from the camera without spending all the time transcoding to ProRes or in your case Cineform.

But of course something has to give... in this case you sacrifice the buttery smooth playback your cineform transcodes have.

I guess you get to decide whether you want to edit immediately and live with the slight delays in scrubbing, or if you can wait for the transcodes.

Behind the scenes of the Iron Man HUD by Rongxinin movies

[–]coppersink -1 points0 points ago

The link you posted is not behind the scenes of Avengers. It's a tutorial to create VFX similar to it.

Again: it was not a request for a tutorial to create similar effects. It was a request for slightly more information than a single screen shot.

Try learning something for yourself!

I've used AE for years. I would be able to re-create the HUD effects without a tutorial.

My point was that is single image is hardly great Behind the Scenes material, and simply shows which software was used at one point.

Sigh....

It wasn't a request for a tutorial.

My point was that this is hardly 'Behind the Scenes' and simply a still image showing us which piece of software was used.

Galaxy S III, Galaxy Note 7000 , or HTC One X Intl? by AmpleDeficitin Android

[–]coppersink 2 points3 points ago

I'd get a SIII for the hardware, between that and the HTC. I mean, if you care about the looks of the HTC enough to purchase it over superior hardware then; boom - go for it.

The Note is great, and certainly powerful, but I guess it comes down to how big you want your screen and if you would ever use the pen.

Mac vs. PC in the Filmmaking world. by under_R_runin Filmmakers

[–]coppersink 1 point2 points ago

I use PC as a freelancer, but typically Macs when I have to go work in someone else's office.

PC: More power for your money. It's that simple.

Avid MC is available, as is Resolve - and of course CS6. Nuke, 3DS, Maya...

CS6 allows me to edit RED RAW with a £2k computer. No transcoding. Just edit.

The Mac pro appears to be less of a focus for Apple these days - however they are very reliable, powerful work stations. I understand why people buy into that hardware.

The only thing I would find useful is ProRes encoding (although DNxHD is a great option). There's really nothing else left now FCPX has come along.

What does r/filmmakers think of B&H's new Mac Pro CS6 Workstation? by I_Am_Not_Zanein Filmmakers

[–]coppersink 3 points4 points ago

Well, if you don't mind spending more than you need to then this is a great ready made system I imagine.

Sure, you could get a really great CS6 PC, but it would probably be harder work, and some people don't care about saving money, just getting on with editing.
