As founding members of the Football League and IIRC the longest serving top flight team it's not that suprising, what's also not suprising is Liverpool finishing above us. But not this season!

10-point plan for David Moyes to turn Everton into a Champions League side by cdsmith789in soccer

[–]cookthemansomeeggs 0 points1 point ago

Good blog post. I agree with nearly all the points, and more importantly I think most of them are doable, apart from Dempsey.

Happy to see Rodwell go, his development has stalled and he will struggle for a place next season barring something miraculous. But I fear his injury proneness makes him tainted and coupled with his stalling progression I think the big money move we all thought possible is less likely.

What's going on with Distin's contract? by cookthemansomeeggsin Everton

[–]cookthemansomeeggs[S] 0 points1 point ago

Valid point about Heitinga, although he was saying that when he wasn't being played regulary or not in his favoured CB position. He's said, more recently, that he's very happy at the club now and so he should be, player of the season IMHO.

I don't think Buzz is past it though, he is 34 and you're right we need a replacement lined up. Hopefully that will be the likes of Duffy who I'm sure will feature more this season.

I don't think you can doubt Distin's fitness or ability, he's got at least another 1 or 2 seasons at the top. I just hope it's with us.

Better view than 80% of seats at Goodison - bloody pillars, but then again you're watching Wolves...

Are there any ideas as to where Drogba might be going? by king1037in soccer

He popped to the shop to get a sandwich earlier, think it was chicken caesar. He also treated himself to a cadbury's boost and a strawberry ribena (carton, not bottle - he likes a straw).

After taking Forest Green to the Champion's League Final (12 seasons of hard work), I did exactly this.

I donned my suit about 10 mins before the match started.

Connected my laptop to the 52 inch TV, played the game against Chelsea at the San Siro in classic 2D and off we went with the sound effects blaring out of the surround sound.

I promised myself on that day that if I succeeded I'd buy that season's (IRL) Forest Green home shirt.

Got spanked 3-0. My young English centreback Joey Thompson was booked early in the first half and we went in at the break 1-0 down.

I assure you at this point I was still fully suited. We came back out after the break to have a wonderfully crafted through ball from my Brazilian attack mid Edinson for my English striker Oaks ruled offside. It wasn't, the bloody cheats. Suffice to say I was pissed off so the jacket came off and the top button undone ( yes I was hamming it up, but it was my special day damn it!).

In about the the 65th minute I made some changes to personnel, unfortunately my only fit centreback cover was a very inexperienced 18 yr old welsh kid called Felix Shearer, I daren't not put him on in such a high pressured situation. That came back to bite me in the ass as Joey Thompson was booked for a 2nd time for fouling Chelsea's striker in the box. Penalty 2-0. On comes Shearer to cover.

Shearer has a blinding 15 minutes, saving his team time after time. But I've had to sacrifice attack for defence and I can only hold on for so long. I go all out attack for the last 10 minutes - we had something like 10 shots on target in this period. None went in.

Chelsea caught us on the counter, little Felix Shearer ( actually he was about 6'3 but a novice) struggling to keep pace with a speeding Chelsea striker who was bearing down on goal. He throws out a left leg in a vain attempt to slide the ball away and fells his man. 2nd red card, down to nine men, they score from the free kick. Game over.

Still one of my most enjoyable FM moments, all because I suited up.

I must have missed that part, was it before or after the social commentary of the Maori underclass, the gang violence, domestic violence, rapes, suicide and/or murder?

This for me too.

I'd also mention Once were Warriors. An Incredibly powerful unnerving Kiwi film.
