I would argue that yes, they do get to be as valid as us. I would also argue that the shifting of a state of de facto dominance or civil strife are important in the social progression of society.

You brought up an interesting case because we can look at it from the other side: when blacks were seen as inferior by most of the population. Should everyone (including the blacks) have just accepted that in the name of stability? Should the women or the homosexuals have just given up in their efforts for equal rights?

Nowadays, we have the issue of marijuana. Should we just accept it should be illegal because it's the dominant view?

Don't fall into the trap of "everything I believe in should be accepted and everything I want changed shouldn't".

Oh, then sure. Their point is as valid as ours, though I don't think they would use the word person.

I'm pro-choice, but you clearly have no understanding of their position on the matter. They are against abortion because they see a fetus as a human life. Their opinion is no less valid than ours, which says that it's not a human life (or at least it's an expendable one).

I disagree. The responsibility of the holocaust rests on the shoulders of the German people of the time. They participated in or stood idly by while it happened.

What does your mom or dad do that's totally awesome, that you spent your formative years thinking was just normal? by guspollyin AskReddit

[–]chrismorin 0 points1 point ago

1) I see it as "it's her body, she's responsible for it". She can take the morning after pill, she can have an abortion. It's really out of the guys playing field so yes, I give her much more responsibility for giving birth. I'm not talking about pregnancies here.

2) Lets not get caught up in semantics, you clearly implied that they shouldn't be held as much responsible as what I suggested.

3) Having a baby when you can't support one is IMO, unethical. But yes, thats just a matter of opinion. I'm not talking about able mothers here, I'm talking about people who shouldn't be having kids yet.

Some of them turn out fine I'm sure. But I'm talking about those who suffer because of the behavior/financial state of their teen mothers. I'm talking about teens who really shouldn't be having children (which I think is the vast majority of them).

On the flip side though, children from rich parents can also be the victims of bad behavior, though I intuitively feel it's happens less often.

I agree, people are heavily influenced by society and by changing society we can definitely decrease teen pregnancies. But at the end of the day, there is a person making a decision and I feel they are responsible for it.

Whether a person is responsible for their actions or society is is a whole discussion in and of itself. I would say that most violent criminals are born partially out of environmental factors, but there are still those who under all these stresses don't resort to violence. The difference between them is the choices they make.

I do know where you're coming from, but let me ask you this. You would give a free pass to a teen who decides to have a baby because of their environment, but would you give a free pass to a rapist because he was rapped?

In which case you should get an abortion if you don't want a kid. Notice how I said "giving birth" not "getting pregnant". Before even considering abortion though, you should go to a hospital immediately after rape and take the morning after pill making abortion a backup plan.

Also, although we have differing views, we should be able to have a discussion without calling each other names; that never does any good.

[–]chrismorin -1 points0 points ago

Well, that's one criteria. And then there's the not using adequate protection. Sure, you can get pregnant no matter what but most teen pregnancies arise from sex with no contraception. The third is not willing to have an abortion.

If you don't support abortion and don't want a baby, then you should practice abstinence or at least double up on contraception (pill and condom for example).

So no, giving birth to a child in a developed country isn't an accident, I don't see why we treat young poor mothers as "victims", the children are the victims, the mothers are the perpetrators.

100% Hero by Caqtasin pics

[–]chrismorin 0 points1 point ago

I feel that for someone to be considered a hero, a certain amount of self sacrifice is required. Firefighter is really a low risk job considering many others. The mortality of those working in the fishing industry (one of the highest) is over 46 times higher for example. So "Fucking disappointment" might be a bit melodramatic. source: http://bls.gov/iif/oshwc/cfoi/cfoi_rates_2009hb.pdf

Dear Canada, do you realize you have lost the right to strike? by MikePalecekin canada

[–]chrismorin 1 point2 points ago

I actually plan to move to the states after my engineering studies. The opportunities there for a high skilled worker are much better than they are here: 1.5 times the salary, a quarter of the taxes, more interesting companies/projects and lower cost of living. If I wanted to get by while doing the least amount of work possible I'd definitely stay here in Quebec.

When I said "don't want to work" I didn't mean it as they are lazy. I mean't that it should be interpreted by the law as no more than an employee who stops working.
