TROPHY CASE

Just got my account hacked. Everyone I urge you, PLEASE USE AN AUTHENTICATOR by animesekaielricin diablo3

[–]cdm9002 0 points1 point ago

Yep, I'm the author. It's coded in C#. You can go and view the source anytime to see how it works. Which is important, as I wanted it to be open-source and ensure everyone could see what it does, so there were no security concerns.

Glad you were able to import an authenticator key, but that error is an odd one, related to the data passed back and forth. Can you PM me which country you are in, and the region that you are trying to create authenticator. I'll check it's working here.

What a surprise: No Session ID Hacking after all by sandmacin Diablo

You're welcome....I wanted a portable one, as I kept leaving my phone elsewhere :) winauth was born.

The PC encryption is done using the built-in Windows Data Protection API. The encryption is either tied to the user credentials and your password, or to the key generated when Windows was installed. I doubt they make use of the MAC as it would invalidate keys if you switched network adapters.

Still having problems? Can you log an issue in winauth if it's failing, then I can look into it.

PSA: WinAuth is a free emulated authenticator for PC by Nexismin Diablo

[–]cdm9002 0 points1 point ago

I'm the developer if anyone has any specific questions.

I know this comes up a lot, so I'll mention it. Winauth isn't indented to be a "as good as" replacement for the physical keyfob. It likely runs on the same PC as the games, so no, it isn't as secure.

However, it was originally written to to provide a portable / clone version for the Mobile Authenticator, or for those who cannot get access to the physical device or phone versions.

The BBC has implemented the EU cookie directive - rather elegantly by Angstweevilin web_design

[–]cdm9002 0 points1 point ago

You are still allowed (and require no permission) to store cookies that are required for your application to work correctly. It is not about stopping all cookies, just ones that are not necessary, third-party or could be used for tracking.

Thanks for rubbing it in that I have to use IE at work, Google... by figboot11in funny

[–]cdm9002 1 point2 points ago

No. It has that message in all versions of IE (except IE 10 it seems), as well as FF and Opera. It seems it's just a cheeky "get Chrome" link.

Do you have an independent link for that? The closest thing I could find was Lifehacker's browser speed tests from Feb 2012 that puts Chrome top.

What "amazing fact" or colloquialism do you know is actually wrong, and you're sick of correcting people about it? by TestZeroin AskReddit

[–]cdm9002 0 points1 point ago

"It's not stupider, it's more stupid, stupid".

Whilst more people do write "more stupid", "stupider" is grammatically correct and can be used. It has been in literally use since around 1800 (that we know of) but just about half as common as "more stupid". It is listed in many dictionaries, including the OED.

Mass email solution by TroutM4nin techsupport

[–]cdm9002 0 points1 point ago

I would look at Amazon Simple Email Service. Whilst not entirely free, there is also a 1yr trial account. Even without that it works out is cheaper than most of the other batch email services out there. e.g. 10,000 addresses and 1 email per month, Mailchimp and Constant Contact would be $75, SendGrid would be $9.95, Amazon would be about $1.

You can use the Amazon SMTP server directly, but you still need to have an email client that can send out messages, rather than having a full html email designer like some of the other services.

An amendment that would legalize the use of propaganda on American audiences is being inserted into the latest defense authorization bill. The bi-partisan amendment is sponsored by Rep. Mark Thornberry from Texas and Rep. Adam Smith from Washington State. by Orangutanin politics

Sure doesn't feel like it. I noticed it a lot when I came here in 2005. But I think it has got stronger, as during my recent parents visit they said they were amazed with the amount of propaganda and one-sided views on the news. (NBC/ABC). Fox might blow their minds.

Senate proposes "Ex-Patriot Act" imposing a 30% tax on those who renounce citizenship by TheResPublicain TrueReddit

[–]cdm9002 8 points9 points ago

As a non-US resident/citizen you do not have to declare anything, as your US spouse would file taxes as a married-filing-separately person.

However, if you wanted to double their foreign income exclusion limit, because, for example, they were the main and significant earner then you would have to register with the IRS and get a Tax Identification Number. In that case you would also be opting to declare your earnings.

Edit: Japan did have a worldwide tax policy, but changed it in 2009.

Yesterday I refused to serve a pregnant woman alcohol, on the grounds I didn't feel comfortable supplying her with drink. why do I now feel like an awful person? by iliveinlikeatownin AskReddit

[–]cdm9002 5 points6 points ago

Whilst you haven't elaborated on the details (was she drunk, what did she order), you should have treated her no different than as if she was not pregnant.

If you are against giving alcohol to people who you deem shouldn't have it, don't be a bartender, be a counsellor.

You are no different than a religious pharmacists who refuse the pill based on their beliefs. It's isn't your job to be judge and jury. Keep your beliefs to yourself.

Recent studies have shown that light and infrequent amounts of alcohol have no effect, opposed to as was once thought, so maybe you should also keep yourself updated on that.

I live in a residential neighbourhood, on a corner so my front lawn becomes a bit of a shortcut for people with their dogs.

I was out doing yard work and mowing one summer, getting hot and agitated. Some guy is walking his dog (not on a leash) and I'm stood there as he lets it get on my lawn and proceed to take a dump.

I lost it and started berated the guy. I think I even may have used the words "get off my lawn".

I heard a few months later that I am apparently the "grumpy guy who lives down the street". Fuck 'em.

Pregnant and never been this horny in my entire life! by LukesMommyin sex

[–]cdm9002 2 points3 points ago

It's normal. You have a large increase in estrogen and progesterone whilst pregnant, which will increase your sex drive. Of course, it also make you a lot more emotional.

Take the sex whilst you can, because you won't be quite as enthusiastic later.

Need help with transferring domain & email by SmellsLikeUpfooin techsupport

[–]cdm9002 4 points5 points ago

Changing MX records just changes where future emails get delivered. It won't affect your existing emails. It's unclear if that's what you mean.

You will have to change the MX records to point at the new host's email servers. You will need to ask them what they are. All new emails for the domain will then go there instead.

However, you usually can't just transfer existing emails over from one host to another, as it would all depend how they are stored.

You will likely have to set up your new accounts in B and export/import the emails if the hosts even support it.

If you have emails on your desktop in something like Outlook, Microsoft Mail or Thunderbird, then you probably don't need to worry as you can copy the emails from one folder to the other once you have set up the your email account.

If both hosts use IMAP, then you can connect to them using Thunderbird and literally copy emails from one to the other.

Richi's Rant: Web Analytics Illegal after 26 May? Crazy! by wordsmithiein web_design

[–]cdm9002 1 point2 points ago

My opinion ... yes.

The directive says that you cannot store any information on a visitor's computer (cookie or local storage) without declaring it and getting consent.

However, there are exceptions if it is "for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network" or "strictly necessary for the provision of an information society service".

The latter essentially referring to a remote, paid service.

So, strictly, you cannot store cookies or use local storage without declaration and consent unless you absolutely need it for your service (website) to work.

These means you cannot use Google Analytics, for instance, without informing and getting every visitor's consent.

To abide by the directive you would need to include a link on your home page to your cookie policy, and put up an explicit "accept/don't accept" choice for every visitor, whereupon you can then use 3rd party cookies/local storage. Or, you could get implicit consent by putting up a notice and telling them how to opt-out, inferring they have read the notice and therefore opted in by continuing.

Are we going to see every (EU) website ask every visitor for consent from 26th May?...unlikely.

Will they do anything about it?...just as unlikely.
