Help with death and how not to give a fuck.. by purplelephantin howtonotgiveafuck

[–]caulk_blocker 7 points8 points ago

This will not be a popular comment, but here goes.

"Not giving a fuck" means that you don't let fear keep you from living your life to the fullest. We high five strangers, we meditate in public places, and we wear tuxedos to work on a random Tuesday for one reason: to push ourselves out of our comfort zones.

Feeling the inadequacy of being surrounded by grieving friends while you have no clue what to say or do to comfort them is definitely outside your comfort zone. Be brave enough to feel lost and vulnerable and inadequate, and then be there for your friends anyway. That's what it means to not give a fuck.

"I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that..."

I really hated testimony meeting, with the public chest beating about who has strong beliefs. Belief is not knowledge. It's just not.

I decided to stop being motivated by guilt and fear. Then I started asking questions. Yaddah yaddah yaddah I left.

I'll be there, dissipating into intelligence vapors or whatever it is that happens.

I left like this instead of like this, so it wasn't too traumatic. The people I am still friends with don't care. My parents were surprisingly supportive. I'm closer to them now than I was before I left.

Now that my afterlife is consigned to outer darkness/Mormon hell it makes the time my remaining time with them more valuable ;)

Congrats to you! I've been strangely happy today.

Thank you. I was in it about 24 years. I wish I had realized a lot sooner, but it could be worse.

It took me a year to start drinking beer, and another to write the letter. Still, I am no heavyweight. I barely remember making the Nickelback one.

It is technically correct, the best kind of correct.

He was going to go to New Zealand where Jane could paint the local castles and shit, and he could be a bush pilot.

In my stupor of thought I managed to fuck up the layers on the third image. It should have looked like this.

Thank you! Sure. Looks like I accidentally a few layers before posting that image. It should have looked like this. Oh well.

I had a hard time with this also. I believe it is called the Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response and it even has it's own subreddit:

First you create a universe then erase any trace evidence that you exist at all. Then you procreate until one of your spirit kids rebels, which actually is part of your plan, but still for some reason you will curse him forever along with a full third of your other kids.

Make a planet to send the rest of your kids to and punish anyone who doesn't kiss your ass. Only talk to one of your kids at a time and make up really weird shit for them to do, but only document it in an ancient language that no one speaks and is difficult to translate. Make sure there is plenty of disagreement on what you say, and whether you mean things literally or figuratively. You don't want to make it too easy. Play favorites with the kids that somehow happen to get it right. Punish the rest.

What if the real test in this life is to see if we can use our reason to escape the bullshit religions we are born into, and overcome the apathy, guilt and social pressures that keep us subjected to them?
