TROPHY CASE

President Benson's grandson exposes LDS dishonesty, Gordon B Hinckley does damage control (1994) by canadianjohnsonin exmormon

[–]canadianjohnson[S] 3 points4 points ago

I recall something to the effect of

I the Lord am bound when ye do what I say, but when ye do not what I say, ye have no promise.

So what happened to the "run and not be weary, walk and not faint" stuff promised by God for keeping the Word of Wisdom? Maybe some of the leaders of the church are just not obedient enough.

I just started reading it- it is pure gold. It describes in detail how information control is used, how behavioral control is used, etc etc. How phobias will induce thought stopping phrases in cult members, how to create a plan etc etc. It is also helpful on a personal level to realize what has been done to you- it's like learning about yourself.

Check out this video to get an idea of his brilliance.

Loved this:

When I present my problem, the inevitable response from members is a resounding ‘Shelve your concerns and keep praying!’ How oft then must I pray over the same faith-seed that refuses to grow?

This has been going around my FB, posted by TBM "friends." I can't decide whether to unleash a barrage of argumentative comments or facepalm so hard I knock myself unconscious. by EvilLittleThingin exmormon

He is basically saying

All the data isn't in yet, so we should not support a change and actively fight against it.

Wha? How would interracial marriage have been legalized with this logic?

What would you say are the most convincing arguments against the Book of Mormon?

That's the same way my brother gained a testimony of the "Mentinah Archives" and then subsequently found out it was an elaborate hoax. He began to wonder if his testimony of the Book of Mormon was also false. After a crisis of faith he left the Mormon church.

I highly recommend reading the book "Releasing the Bonds" by Steven Hassan before you talk to her. He describes something he calls the "strategic interaction approach" in helping people and shares what to avoid etc.

Happy Mother's Day : An Open Letter to my Mother by my2012accountin exmormon

Great post, loved it. I see my mother in the same way- she feels like a failure because her children have left the church, but I see a wonderful woman who taught her children to value truth so much that they stayed true to themselves and left her version of truth. She taught me to be a good person, but her version of good and my version of good just happen to be different. And I know she did her best with what she was given.

Looks like some good top questions to me. I agree with the evolution line of questioning- it is an important question to ask of our politicians in my opinion. Are they willing to stand up and declare publicly that they support science? Anyway, I constantly see important subjects upvoted on reddit. I believe that the reddit community is powerful and thoughtful when the time is right.

You are assuming that all the people who care outnumber the people who don't give a damn. Based on the kind of posts that get upvoted on subjects that truly matter, I am willing to bet that those who care outnumber those who would want to make a mockery of the process.
