TROPHY CASE

    Five-Year Club

She cried rape, he went to prison for 6 years. She met up with him years later and admitted to him that she had lied, but said she wasn't willing to admit it to prosecutors because she had been awarded $1,500,000.00 by enjoyablycrazyin MensRights

The point of a civil suit and monetary judgement is for the victim to be "made whole". When you suffer through a terrible trauma like a rape, if you then go through years of very difficult therapy that manages to eventually restore you to your pre-rape level of happiness and well-being, you still haven't been made whole. You still suffered through an agonizing trauma and you still suffered through years of continuing sorrow. The only way the law has to compensate you for that suffering that someone inflicted on you is for the court to award you money in an amount that makes up for your suffering.

Let me put it to you in another way. Lets say you're retired and someone kidnaps you and tortures you horribly for a year, then let's you go. Then a doctor gives you a brand new pill that has the ability to totally wipe out your memory for the last year, so you now have no memory of the torture and you're no longer mentally affected by it in anyway. So, is everything just as good for you now as it was before the person tortured you for a year? No, of course not. You still experienced a year of your life being tortured even if you can no long remember it. And on top of that you were robbed of a year that you could've otherwise been doing things you enjoy or find worthwhile. Thats a year of your life that can never be given back to you.

It's been said before in reply, so I'll say it again. You really shouldn't be clicking on any woahdude links if you're so susceptible to seizures that you can have a siezure triggered just from seeing a flashing screen for the 1 second that it takes you to close the window. I'm not saying that this post shouldn't have a seizure-warning on it, I'm just saying it seems unrealistic that it would ever come into play for anyone in the real world, so it seems like something that's not worth even mentioning.

Definitely and absolutely. Keeping a positive attitude has a tremendous impact on keeping you healthy and alive for longer, and it also makes that longer amount of alive time more worthwhile. It's a win-win.

Well, no, I most certainly have SOME idea what I'm talking about on this subject, but I'm also not an expert on it, which is why I put in that disclaimer.

Being a metaphore doesnt mean it can't be misandrist or misogynist or anything else. Testosterone is a totally healthy natural part of being a man. There's nothing wrong with it at all, in fact its often a very beneficial thing that drives men to do some of the greatest things that've been done in history. So it's misandrist to talk about testosterone like its a metaphorical "poison" as if it's a terrible evil that must be purged out of men. No, testosterone is usually an awesome thing to have inside of you, it's only on occasion when it interferes with what you're trying to achieve. It's the same way how if someone said "the eggs inside women's ovaries is a poison. It clouds their mind and they need to get rid of it." that would be misogynist. There's nothing wrong with women having ovaries or eggs or estrogen, in fact those are wonderful parts of women's bodies. So its messed up to talk about it as if its a "poisonus" bad thing. Same goes for men and semen/testosterone.

And that was just the most blatant misandrist line that immediately stood out, there's other stuff in there too.

You mean a lymph node? I'm pretty sure that there aren't any lymph nodes in or on the brain. What type of "node" is the doc referring to?

Also fyi, coiling isn't the only aneurysm treatment. For instance there's also a common surgical technique to treat aneurysms that's called "aneurysm clipping". If your condition isn't amenable to coiling, then you might want to ask your doctor/surgeon if clipping might work on you. If they aren't familiar with the technique or aren't willing to give reasonable consideration to whether it might be right for you, then seek a second opinion until someone at least gives it some consideration. In fact, given the seriousness of your condition, it would probably be a good idea to get a second opinion on the whole situation anyway.

Good luck.

Semen, like Tyrion Lannister stated on Game of Thrones is like a poison.

Here's the more accurate (and non-misandrist) version:

Testosterone has strong effects on many aspects of a person's mind and body, including increased libido and increased impulsivity. Immediately after ejaculation the level of testosterone in your blood rapidly and significantly declines, which causes a very significant decrease in libido (sex drive) and impulsivity, and that results in the more rational parts of your brain being more dominant, which allows you to make more rational decisions.

Wordier perhaps, but more accurate and less misandrist sounding.

EDIT:

p.s. women have a meaningful amount of testosterone in their bodies as well, and it has powerful effects on them also, but to a much lesser degree because it's a relatively much lower amount.

thanks for the info. as I wrote a few comments back, when a berry ruptures it often leads to subarachnoid hemorrhage, so that would certainly be consistent.

Sorry to hear about your illness. Though, at least in a relative way, it sounds like you were very lucky, because lots of people die pretty much immediately after a ruptured brain aneurysm. As a beginning 3rd year med student I'm pretty sure that there isn't anything I can tell you that you haven't already heard from the real doctors. Did they say what type of aneurysm it was? Was it a berry aneurysm? If so, was it a typical berry (meaning a defect in the vessel wall that developed into a berry of the decades) or was caused because you also have Marfan's, ADPKD, ehlers-danlos syndrome, or an AVM? What type of seizures did you have? Were they able to localize the seizure activity to a specific area of the brain? Did you ever have any seizures before the aneurysm ruptured? And I believe you didn't mention your gender, are you male or female?

p.s. I'm only asking because it sounded like your were encouraging further questions, but I don't want you to feel even the slightest pressure to answer. If you don't want to answer for any reason, then please feel free to simply not answer.

Thanks! Yeah, I've heard pretty much everyone say the same thing, and I'm STRONGLY hoping that it gets much better for me from this point onward. These first 2 years have SUCKED. I really, really did not enjoy these previous 2 years. But I loved volunteering in the hospital during undergrad, so I hope to FSM that I'm going to love the rest of my career since now that I'm going back into the clinical setting again. I really, really hope so.

I just finished 2nd year, and I'm studying for step 1 right now, and literally like 15 minutes ago I was looking at my notes about berry aneurysms leading to subarachnoid hemorrhage. So what's my excuse? ;)

I can't speak to the koran, but in the new testament citation you quoted, you're misinterpreting it. A "curse word" is ENTIRELY different than cursing someone. The bible verse you quoted is saying that you shouldn't insult people. It's only a coincidence that in english the phrase "curse word" means "raunchy word" and also can mean "to hurl insults and bad wishes at someone."

read the multiple commentaries here http://bible.cc/james/3-9.htm

EDIT: in other words, that verse means you shouldn't say "I don't like you and I hope you get cancer" (note that there are no vulgar words in that sentence), and that verse DOESN'T mean that you shouldn't say "this dinner you cooked is fucking awesome!" i.e., the verse doesn't say which style of words you should or shouldn't use to express yourself, no, the verse says you shouldn't say mean things to people.

Yeah, but his circle of willis is an unrecognizable mess, so that'll ruin any chance he had at being a vascular model. If he's lucky he might be able to get some work as a vascular model in the Sears catalog.
