It's also very likely he would have won a title in 04, had he not been fired from Detroit.

They don't "need" to surround Howard with shooters. That has been Orlando's strategy for years, and it hasn't really worked. There's no all-world shooters on the team, but Love and Ridnour are above average. Rubio is an average shooter and so is Beasley.

If I'm Dwight Howard, I finish up my season with Orlando and sign with Minnesota. The team would have the cap to sign him, and the team is, without a doubt, the best fit for him. They'd be instant contenders, and maybe even the best team in the NBA.

It sets up an interesting east vs west ROY match up. Usually there's one clear winner.

Could L.A. trade Blake Griffin for Dwight Howard. by paradoxialin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 0 points1 point ago

I think Orlando would jump at that trade. They clearly aren't going to get anything better. But if I were the Clippers, I'd rather keep Blake.

Rodney Stuckey. Are you good, are you not, are you a point guard, are you a shooting guard? It all depends on the day.

Him and Kim Kardashian are getting a lot of hate because most people think that their marriage was just for ratings. That could be the case, but I doubt it. It's more likely that they got married thinking, like a lot of people, that they could change each other. He thought he'd make a multimillionare celebrity quit her job and become barefoot and pregnant on some small farm in Minnesota, and she thought he'd just get used to the constant media attention.

It was a poor decision, but nothing that the world should obsess over for this long. If anything, it makes them seem more real.

Where will D-Will end up? Opinions? by exzacklyrightin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 3 points4 points ago

If he leaves NJ, the only "big" destination with the money to sign him will be Dallas. There may be two big free agents next year, Howard and Williams, and Dallas will probably have their pick of either one.

If Dallas chooses Howard, Williams will end up at a small market team, maybe Indiana or Denver, though I have no idea what their cap situations are. Perhaps Philly as well.

Point taken about Darko. I had a problem coming up with ten better than him, but you definitely did!

Minnesota might be the darkhorse team in the West. Darko IS a top ten center, Love has added a lot to his game, Rubio is living up to the hype, who knows how good Derrick Williams will be and if Beasley is taking his bipolar medication and not smoking weed, he could be an allstar.

ESPN sources: Clippers and NBA-owned Hornets have agreed to Chris Paul deal in principle. Gordon, Kaman, Aminu and Minnesota pick to Hornets by urfaselolin nba

This move takes LA out of building mode and places them in contender mode. I would assume that their next move has to be to trade Bledsoe for a starting caliber, defensive SG. Mayo? They have entirely too many point guards. Billups can't be traded and he's not a SG. I always thought Mo Williams should be a SG, even though he's undersized. Maybe start him at SG? Who knows.

[–]bottombitchdetroit 0 points1 point ago

These are two entirely different situations though. The Hornets don't even have enough players to qaulify for a game, so Paul could find a better team at the end of the year. What team will really be able to sign Howard next year that will be better than Orlando is now?

[–]bottombitchdetroit 4 points5 points ago

I don't. I think Orlando looked at their options, realized that they can pay Howard the most next year and that there's no team with the space to sign him that is better than Orlando, and have decided to roll the dice and not trade him. Barring an epic Orlando collapse that may lead to them trading him at the deadline, Howard will be a member of Orlando for this season.

Billups is not a shooting guard. He played SG when he first came into the league, sucked, and only became who he was when he moved to point. I just don't see him playing SG again. His skills are running an offense.

Magic take Dwight Howard off the market, for now by speedchaserin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 0 points1 point ago

This is a good move for Orlando. If all things stay the same, there will be three max contract players next off season. Of the teams that will probably be able to sign a max contract player, only Dallas will be any good. That leaves Dallas the only place that Howard could sign that makes any sense, and he'd be competing with Paul and Williams for that spot. Orlando can pay him a lot more money than other teams. Who would go to a worse team and make less money than where they are now?

I like Orlando's chances of keeping him.

I think the most interesting thing about this is that, if true, this signals that Portland plans on rebuilding. There's no other reason to get rid of Wallace. Wallace is still a very good player, and getting rid of him for picks won't allow Portland to sign a better player. There are none.

What does that mean for Aldridge?

[–]bottombitchdetroit 0 points1 point ago

Any team that would take Gasol probably isn't in a position to give Hornets pieces to build around.

The original vetoed trade was more than fair and left the Hornets with a decent team, but it wasn't good for the Hornets in the respect that it doesn't really help them rebuild.

Any team with the picks or young players needed for the Hornets to rebuild will be a rebuilding team themselves, or looking for a player to push them into the next level. Gasol is not a player that can do that. Gasol's a good player, but he's a 31 year old big. That gives a team that trades him about two years of great production. I don't think other rebuilding teams will go all in for two years of great production.

[–]bottombitchdetroit 1 point2 points ago

Meh, Broussard. But, anyway, at this point, I don't see any reason for the Hornets to accept a trade from the Lakers. If I were the Hornets, I'd rather take a Clippers deal or even just let Paul walk after the end of the year, than take anything the Lakers have. Any Lakers piece will just stave off the rebuilding process for a year or two. With the upcoming draft, this is the best time to start the rebuilding process. Why be an 8 seed for a year or two? Of course, I don't run the NBA.

Steve Kerr unloads on NBA owners, calls Dan Gilbert a baby by AndyRooneyin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 0 points1 point ago

I honestly have no idea. But that's what all the talking heads always say.

ETA: The only thing that I can compare this to is my own dealings with the UAW. You definitely cannot undercut other union members to get a job at an auto factory. If there are two of us up for a job, I cannot say, hey, pick me, GM, I'll work for two dollars less than this other guy. I would no longer be in the union and thus no longer be able to work at GM. I have no idea if this is an apt comparison.

Stern did all of this because he wants to set a precedent that teams will follow when it comes to star players leaving early. I really don't think this is about the Hornets anymore, but about him thinking he is saving the league somehow. The facts are that if they don't trade Paul, they lose everything at the end of the year. But, Paul loses a lot too.

The only big team Paul can really sign with next year is Dallas, because Dallas is making choices this season that will allow them to sign a max contract next season. The union will not allow Paul (and I don't think Paul would do it either, actually) to sign anything less than a max contract, or a few million off a max contract. This means that Paul will not be playing for the Lakers, or New York, or any big team unless those teams make substantial cuts to their roster. Paul will have to sign with a small market team or a crappy big market team.

The actual answer to having more parity in the league is for players to play out their full contracts where they are. If stars cannot demand on their last year to be traded to a contender, there will be very few super teams (remember, Miami gutted their entire roster in preparation for last year's free agency) and much more parity in the league. The solution to actually having a better NBA with more competition is for players to play out their contracts. The NBA is set up to have parity, if things actually go as planned, but these last year trades screw it up.

That's not to say I agree with how Stern has handled this, because I don't, and he should have approved these trades to save the Hornets. But, if other teams do follow this model, there will be a lot more parity and competition, and that is what everyone seems to want.

CP3 to the Clippers rejected by the NBA by rjvirin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 1 point2 points ago

Yep. Gordon's already a top five SG, and all the ones in front of him have already peaked and will do nothing but decline, Kobe, Wade, Johnson, Ginobli, while he should keep getting better. Ellis is there, but he's more a combo guard, and I guess there's AI, but he's a forward that gets stuck playing some SG.

CP3 to the Clippers rejected by the NBA by rjvirin nba

[–]bottombitchdetroit 4 points5 points ago

You should be relieved. The Clippers are a better team without this trade, in my opinion. Gordon could be a superstar (was he really involved with this trade?), Kaman is a good starting center, Bledsoe will be a good player, and that pick could easily land you another allstar. The only downside is that Paul would probably ensure Griffin's resigning.
