First, put a blank line after the opening paragraph. If you have two spaces at the end of it, remove them.

  • The list items are fine as they are.
Two spaces at the end of each line that doesn't start with * to include a line break.
  • Paragraphs outside of a list should be separated by blank lines.

And now, with the formatting visible:

Ladies of reddit, how do you start to get aroused by men: physically and mentally. by SemiSarcasticin AskWomen

[–]boredzo 3 points4 points ago

SVG is a vector format. Vectors can be resized any amount without looking like shit. (Or at least not too much like shit, if it was traced from a raster.) They'll also always print beautifully.

PNG is a raster (also sometimes called “bitmap”) format—i.e., pixels. A raster image cannot be resized without degrading it to at least some degree. Power-of-two multiples work best, which is to say, least badly. Having a high resolution to start with—1500 pixels to a side being fairly high—helps a lot.

As mentioned, vectors always look great in print. For a raster, how good it looks printed depends on the physical size at which you print it: 1500 pixels in five inches is 300 dots (pixels) per inch, which is good, whereas 1500 pixels in 10 inches is 150 dpi, which is passable. Fewer pixels in the same physical space will be lower resolution (fewer dots per inch): A 500 pixel image in five inches would be, of course, 100 dpi, which is mediocre, and in 10 inches, it would be 50 dpi, which is poor—you'll be able to clearly make out individual pixels by that point.

TL;DR: They're printable.

Comparison of the Ink Inside HPs Cartridges Over the Years by robotpixelin technology

[–]boredzo 0 points1 point ago

When you do end up replacing the toner cartridge, I recommend buying Monoprice's version. At the moment, they'll sell you one for $16.20. (Remanufactured, of course—not a brand-new Brother cartridge.)

I have one of their TN-360s in my Brother HL-2170W. The cartridge's supply-monitoring hardware is missing or doesn't work (I can't see in the print queue how much toner is in it), but for the actual printing, it works great.

PyPy blog: STM update: back to threads? by gutworthin Python

[–]boredzo 0 points1 point ago

Something along the following lines: start N threads that each reads from a Queue.Queue() the next job to do, and does it in a "with thread.atomic" block. The STM version of PyPy is then able to run these atomic blocks concurrently.

Sounds like Grand Central Dispatch.

Oglaf - Intermission [NSFW] by pagelessbookin comics

[–]boredzo 1 point2 points ago

By “storyline” I mean the overarching sometimes-serial plot with Ivan, the Mistress, the Ambassador, the “doctor”, etc. What you're talking about is each week's story, which is an episode in the overall storyline (or a one-off episode like this week's). The last page in each week's “story” (episode) is the one with the cut-off corner.

Oglaf - Intermission [NSFW] by pagelessbookin comics

[–]boredzo 15 points16 points ago

There's a storyline most weeks, though this one is a one-off break from it. If you just read them as they come out, or only when it gets linked on Reddit, it's easy to forget (or not know) what happened 4+ weeks ago and lose the thread.

So this is one of those comic strips that's good to go back a month or two and catch up on every once in awhile. If you've never read the whole thing (or any significant portion of it) from the beginning, I recommend doing so.

Note that all Oglaf comics are NSFW unless otherwise stated.

It also used to be very easy to accidentally skip pages by clicking Next Story instead of Next Page. I think they rearranged the links or something because I can't see how to make that mistake now, so you should have no problem going straight through and reading every page.

The UTF-8-Everywhere Manifesto by artyombeilisin programming

[–]boredzo 1 point2 points ago

The HFS Plus specification mostly just says “Unicode” all over, but at one point does mention that the relevant format is what Apple's Text Encoding Manager calls kUnicode16BitFormat, and defines as:

The 16-bit character encoding format specified by the Unicode standard, equivalent to the UCS-2 format for ISO 10646. This includes support for the UTF-16 method of including non-BMP characters in a stream of 16-bit values.

So yeah, UTF-16.

Another attribute worth noting is ST, which determines your carrying capacity. If you're a packrat like me and don't want to keep track of which dressers and chests all over the world you're keeping your spare supplies (mainly ammo and stimpacks) in, it's good to spend a few points on ST so you can carry everything you'll need.

The maximum nickname length on a “standard” (RFC 1459) IRC server is nine characters, so “deadmouse” would fit just fine. It might have been taken by someone else.

[–]boredzo 18 points19 points ago

The whole time since the events of Genesis, God's been looking only at the average quality of life of all humans, but not noticing the severe plights of specific groups at certain times. The priest gets Him to notice this, and He freaks out at His oversight.

Of course, the priest asked the question so he'd have something to say on that topic in his sermon. The sermon doesn't get canceled just because God had a meltdown, so he still has to come up with something. What he comes up with is the classic non-explanation “God works in mysterious ways”.
