Until you have a child and then read "The Road". Then post-apocalyptic shenanigans of any ilk are not so much.

Reddit, what do you do when you are having the worst day? by tylerflyin AskReddit

[–]boondocktaints 57 points58 points ago

  1. Phone off. Fuck everyone.

  2. Laptop off. Fuck everything.

  3. Scotch. Fuck you too if you have a problem, liver.

  4. A Bill Bryson book + a little Die Antwoord. Cheerful yet jarring.

Not sure I have the stones to disassemble to this extent, although the idea is becoming more intriguing every minute...

"Needless to say" now sounds like the precursor to a pompous line of utter bullshit whenever I hear it.

Dribble Rage by Jakeoffskiin fffffffuuuuuuuuuuuu

[–]boondocktaints 2 points3 points ago

From the last time this was posted, a solution: 'The horror of the postpiss dribble can be easily avoided by firmly pressing one or two fingers up and out on the area immediately behind the scrotum after urinating. This forces a tidy evacuation of the urinary tract and prevents the stain.'

Does anyone here work in the Audio area of things in the Film or Television industry? by YourLittleBroin AskReddit

[–]boondocktaints 1 point2 points ago

Hi, I do both. I didn't go to school for it, I have a BA in Communications. Which doesn't have all that much to do with it. I started in Post, moved to music for awhile (if you can mix a commercial but not an album then booooo) and then back into post. I enjoy the post field more because

  1. It is 9-5. Music is ?-?, which makes things like relationships really tough.

  2. There is actual money in post. People are directly making money as a result of the work (commercials, films, series etc) as opposed to an indie band releasing an album and selling 100.

  3. Post is a normal, professional career. Music can be, but it's drastically more competitive for drastically fewer jobs.

In terms of what you need to know: You need to know Pro Tools. I work in both Pro Tools and Nuendo, but Pro Tools is everywhere and works beautifully. You can pick up Pro Tools pretty cheap at the moment, so do and learn it inside and out. Every quick key, every function. Because when you are billing what post houses bill, you have to be psychotically fast all day every day.

When you are watching films or television, pay attention. Listen to all of te components of what is being presented. Where are the music cues, how are they mixed, are there sound effects? Is there foley? Is there ADR?

Spend some time, if you can, with a boom mic and field recorder, so you can understand where all of your source material is coming from.

You can go to school for this, but you need far more grounding and experience to be even remotely employable. Onc you know Pro Tools start finding filmakers and video kids and mixing for them for nothing. Your reel is your career.

Music schools are pumping out thousands of graduates every year, and you have to compete against every single one that aimed for the post industry. You need to know your shit cold and be able to talk to clients like a professional.

This was my senior project in computer animation. It's a 100% computer generated image. by Baker3Din pics

[–]boondocktaints 7 points8 points ago

I'm not a visual artist, but I really believe that film is a bright shining example of the excellence and brilliance of humanity. It makes me proud to exist. You people are fucking great. Weird reaction, I know, but really. I work with photographers, though, and they aren't super thrilled with the hyper-realistic results that are starting to become more common-place...

I got an interview in Waseca for Itron. I am from Washington State. Does any one have any knowledge about this town or the ups and downs of MN? by kstarin twincitiessocial

[–]boondocktaints 1 point2 points ago

MN in general is a great place to live - The general population really seems to have their collective heads on straight. Waseca is about an hour and a half from Minneapolis/St. Paul, so there's quite the drive involved to get to interesting restaurants and shopping, but that's not the end of the world. Waseca is a tiny little town out on the plains with around 10K people. The closest city of any size would be Mankato (40K-ish people). It's not... bad.... Bottom line - you are pretty secluded, the winters are long and brutal and exotic anything is right out. Some people fucking love it - some not so much. Oh, and there's a federal prison there.

Wow - I lived in Oman for awhile... When we lived there tourists couldn't get in so you either have a hookup or - did they change policies? The country is as close to perfect as countries get. Excepting the year-round 120 degree heat...
