New Brunswick drivers..... (in Moncton this morning) by ARC_Prisonerin canada

My family lived in Moncton for a brief period of time and Mountain Rd was known as "Moron Rd" in our household.

Suggestions for a gaming headset? Preferably 5.1 and USB connection by monkidawgin headphones

[–]bonestamp 0 points1 point ago

I've only ever used one surround sound headphone system and it was amazing. It's $3760 (with the recommended headphones), but the surround sound effect is perfectly executed. I was unconvinced that surround sound could be produced from headphones until I heard it, but it actually makes a lot more sense once you understand how it works:

I'm not sure if that's how the cheaper systems work, but if it is then they could be convincing.

Help! I need to come up with a name for my company, does Reddit have some good ideas? by bonestampin AskReddit

too dumb to come up with my own name for my company

I'm not sure how you came to this conclusion. I have come up with plenty of good names (with available domains no less). But, I assumed it would be a waste not to try some crowd sourcing to see if you guys could do better.

Need help figuring out which Outrageously Expensive Pair of Headphones to Blow my Cash On... by madlovemonkeyin headphones

[–]bonestamp 0 points1 point ago

Classical? This one is easy: electrostatics. They can be cheaper (or more expensive) than the phones on this list and they're likely more accurate. They're not generally great for bass, but plenty of bass for classical and scores and they're ridiculously accurate which will give you a braingasm with this type of music.

These are the easiest ones to get your hands on: http://amzn.com/B000056ULH

Stax are also very good (that's what I have). They're a little more difficult to come by. I can't even find a reasonably priced set in the US... but here's kind of what you're looking for: http://www.custom-cable.co.uk/stax-srs-2170-open-air-type-electrostatic-earspeakers.html

Easy to spell/remember means easier for marketing, PR, etc.

I agree, although I won't really be promoting the company... more so the apps, which will have their own easy to spell/easy to remember names. So, I generally agree with you but I think some of the standard rules may not apply to an app company name.

I'm still drawing a blank right now on names, sorry

No problem, thanks for putting your brain on it for a bit. Cheers.

Your SSN is also a tax ID number.

I appreciate the tip but I already talked to an accountant and it makes sense to incorporate for a variety of reasons.

easy to spell, easy to remember

Generally, I would agree with you when creating a company name... but for a mobile app company, I'm not sure that most users care to spell or remember who made it.

I'd need more info to think of possible name ideas. Maybe play off something to do with you to help figure the name out.

I tried to be vague since I want the name to be fairly flexible in terms of what type of apps I make.

Can we please get this movement in gear? I want it big enough that I can just walk out my front door and already be in a protest. by Billisticin ows

Nah, people know why OWS is protesting, the message is clear enough.

Can you put the goal in one sentence?

Amazon announces that it has reached a licensing agreement with Paramount Pictures that will enable Prime Instant Video customers in the U.S. to stream hundreds of new hit movies over the next three years. by PrettyBoyFloydin entertainment

[–]bonestamp 0 points1 point ago

But streaming, via netflix, hulu, or amazon is still at this point a fairly fringe thing among a fairly focused group of tech savvy people.

I completely agree. While it seems commonplace among your friends, it is certainly not among the largest part of the population. I just got my parents doing on demand from their cable company instead of going out to find a movie on DVD and I feel like they're pretty tech savvy for their age... I mean, they text and love their ipads and smartphones and shit.

I like how the officer says he didn't signal, even though the video clearly shows he did. I had a cop do the same thing to me once -- they know it's your word against theirs.

It seems reasonable to me. If they're truly there to keep everyone safe by enforcing laws then recording everything they do is an obvious way to ensure quality work is done. Everything I do at work is recorded for quality control and nobody's life, criminal record, reputation, personal information, fines due...etc is in my hands.

It's been years since I've used a blackberry, but there are certain features that corporate and government security people like about blackberry... such as forced password protection, remote wipe, encrypted everything. iPhones do most of that stuff now, but blackberries were doing it long before iPhone came around. Nokia feature phones have never done this stuff as far as I know.

Can we please get this movement in gear? I want it big enough that I can just walk out my front door and already be in a protest. by Billisticin ows

[–]bonestamp 0 points1 point ago

To get it in gear, you need to motivate more people. For that, you need a clear message with a prioritized agenda of issues you're trying to solve. At this point, there are so many different messages and no clear leadership or agenda that most people who might join the movement, don't clearly understand why they should.

The movement should probably break down into smaller groups with specific agendas. Just like big corporations have organized washington lobbyists, the movement needs to operate like organized public lobbyists. The key word is "organized." A definite leader with a clear message and a specific goal for change. Every successful movement has always had one very specific goal.

Perhaps the goal should be, get money out of politics. There are dozens of laws that could be attacked and many more regulations that could be sought to protect the government's ability to represent the people rather than big corporations.

RCMP ‘to ease Canadians into the idea’ of U.S. agents in Canada by iheartbakonin canada

I wonder why I got three downvotes for asking what is up with the prisons. Thanks for the answer, I had no idea.

Not that I support Harper, but at least it's happening in public... unlike the deal Chretien made behind closed doors to stop his plan to decriminalize cannabis.

If they really wanted somebody, what would stop them from claiming that the person had just crossed the border and they were pursing them? Having a firm rule that "no, you can't pursue anyone inside our border" minimizes any risk of accidents and conspiracies.

I did move to the US and I still don't want US agents in Canada... this is an extremely slippery slope. This is a threat to sovereignty and no country should allow any other country's agents to operate in their borders.
