Americans: Is this acceptable to you? by organicatheistin Parenting

[–]boiker 0 points1 point ago

School districts and local gov are absolutely strapped right now. The good insurance programs are now ok insurance programs. My premium has gone up about 35% over last couple years while copay and coinsurance has doubled. I've worked local gov for 11 years and not once had an insurance plan that paid for maternity leave or any employer maternity benefit.

This has been my experience as well.

I do enjoy self entitled idiots who walk in without calling or preparing anything beforehand complain about how slow things run.

This is the problem. People walk in unprepared. If you call ahead or visit a website you can get a list of what you need.

These bureaucracies are fucking awful and if I was in charge I would fire an employee every week until performance was adequate

Best way to motivate staff, improve morale, and get top performance is weekly firings.

This is exactly what has happened during the last 4 years of pay and promotion freezes in my office. Exemplary effort is rewarded as much as adequate effort-- no reward.

Different Solar Eclipse Time lapse Sequence by mastermayhemin Astronomy

You frame your shot with the camera on a tripod. You take a pic with the filter on every XX minutes. You layer the shots in photoshop screening out or clipping each layer to the sun/moon. Your bottom layer is a regular exposure to capture true color/exposure trees, horizon, sky.

Is this time-lapse video or a sequence of photos? It's impressively smooth.

Nice job. Aligning by hand is a laborious, but rewarding process.

Should banks be limited in the scope of involvement in securities, insurance, etc? If they weren't "over-leveraged" could the crisis been tamed or avoided?

The sun was unfortunately too high and too bright to capture with the canyon. I had to use my solar filter.

but it takes such a large amount of work to discover them

Seriously? I have discovered more people on G+ than I ever had on Facebook. Facebook is full of people I knew/know from HS, past employment and family. I just type a topic in the search bar and i get tons of relevant public posts from people I never heard of. It's like twitter and facebook combined and think it's great.

I really like Google plus--much more so than Facebook. The social discovery is way easier and better implemented. Facebook is great for people I know. Google plus is great for people I don't yet know.

All my friends absolutely gushed about the sunset in Illinois thanks to the eclipse and weather. Meanwhile, I watched the eclipse from the Grand Canyon. It was incredible.

Your pic is fantastic.

Sheriff Joe Arpaio Admits Using Taxpayer Funds To Pursue Birther Conspiracy Probe: ‘So What?’ by davidreiss666in politics

[–]boiker 1 point2 points ago

They have a Governor that will sign anything into there law.

Almost anything. She surprisingly sided with the Astronomy industry and vetoed a bill that would've drastically damaged the state's amazing dark skies and she vetoed a bill that demanded the Feds relinquish control of federally owned land to the state. But that's about all I can think of.

Obama spending binge never happened - Rex Nutting - MarketWatch by ashumanin Economics

[–]boiker 13 points14 points ago

Wasn't the argument at one time that Bush budgeted the wars and some new defense off-budget and that is why the Obama's spending increased?

I'm not saying you are wrong, I just remember that argument in 2009-2010.
