Interviewer answered cell phone during interview, interrupting me mid-sentence. by MassiveForearmsin jobs

[–]blueside 2 points3 points ago

You'd think he would have at least understood that you needed training given your lack of experience. I'm a recent arch. grad myself and this has been one of my biggest stumbling blocks with getting interviews, no one wants to even consider hiring someone with little experience since I need training.

From r/WTF. If you have ever been in architecture school you know this happens all the time. I've done it twice. by archinetin architecture

Not exactly a charge. A low level electric current runs through the blade at a constant amount. Anything that conducts electricity will cause this constant amount to fluctuate and then trips the brake. The saw stop drops the blade into the table and is stopped by an aluminum block at the same time.

The other things you mentioned will trigger it since water conducts electricity. We had a big problem with wet glue dropping blades since people got impatient after laminating wood together. Our school charged you a 100 bucks if you dropped a blade.

That would be pretty cool, but doesn't exist for the nexus.

[–]blueside 70 points71 points ago

To be blunt, that was a pretty dumb move on your part. That showed him you're arrogant, especially given you were going for an entry-level position. In an interview you pretty much have to eat whatever shit they hand you as long as a question or action doesn't violate the law.

Debunking the common myth that high unemployment is caused by employees lacking the right skills. by flatpackjackin jobs

[–]blueside 3 points4 points ago

Cash rich companies not making recklessly extravagant hiring decisions in highly unstable economic environment just for the sake of reducing unemployment?

I don't disagree with this post in general, but this is an exaggeration.

The company is the one who needs X job filled now and so they should be able to find someone who is pretty close, but may need a month of training, then that person should be hired rather than waiting for the perfect candidate or for the government to train them because in the mean time you force your existing workforce to pick up the slack by working harder or longer hours to make up for the missing person. Yes, training someone costs money and is a risk, but isn't it just as costly and risky to degrade your existing workforce?

Regarding your design work, you may want to check out /r/design for tips and advice. Though, you may want to be careful about posting your work over there as they can be pretty harsh.

[–]blueside 4 points5 points ago

No, this article rightly points out that companies expect the world from who they hire and expects them to be already trained on someone else's dime.

My point is that since companies have such record profits right now, they clearly could invest in training for employees that have potential and therefore could retain in the future.

Yes, I see, companies certainly are struggling this day in age with record profits, while being flush with cash on hand.

Rant: Stupid Networking by neurorexin jobs

[–]blueside 2 points3 points ago

I totally agree, It's maddening, but this is how I think about it so I am not as upset: If I was your friend who said that I knew this great guy that we could hang out with, wouldn't you be interested in hanging out with that guy since I think he's great? Versus, say, a random guy walking up to you saying the two of you should hang out because he thinks the two of you would get along?
