Went in for an alignment once, just and alignment, and they handed me that list. I asked them to walk me through it (I used to be a mechanic). After each thing I asked them if they checked them to see if they were really bad, and every answer was "yes". I then went to my glove box and pulled the receipts for all of my parts that I bought recently and replaced on the car (myself); shocks replaced the day before along with tie rods, a a-arms and ball joints (the reason I was in the shop for an alignment), air filter cleaned last month, fuel injectors were just refurbished with brand new pumps and filter, etc. He gave me this very stern look and walked out of the office, came back a few seconds later and offered the alignment for half off.

They hate when people know what they're doing.
